Cyberpunk 2077 Fans Think Johnny’s Inclusion In Fortnite Is Ironic

Cyberpunk 2077 Fans Think Johnny's Inclusion In Fortnite Is Ironic

Summary

  • Both Johnny Silverhand and V will join Fortnite as part of the live-service game’s next collaboration.
  • Immediately following the announcement, fans took to Reddit to poke at the “Irony” of Johnny being a microtransaction.
  • Others were nonplussed, while some immediately began thinking of memes that would come from the collaboration.

The Fortnite metaverse continues to grow in spades. After adding Mariah Carey and Skibidi Toilet, the free-to-play live-service shooter announced that its next collaboration would be with CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077. The announcement, which confirmed previous rumors, will see Johnny Silverhand and V join the world of Fortnite.

It’s another novel collaboration for the battle royale, and another video game appearance for Keanu Reeves. The famous actor also lent his voice to a Shadow-centric DLC pack, while also having previously appeared in The Matrix video games.

Still, as cool as the collaboration is, Cyberpunk fans immediately noticed one glaring issue: Johnny Silverhand would never approve of himself being turned into an Internet commodity.

Update 2.2 has me itching for another trip to Night City.

Mindless Consumerism

Taking to the Cyberpunk subreddit, fans immediately began to poke holes in the “irony” that is Johnny Silverhand being turned into a purchaseable cosmetic in a live-service game.

“God he’d be p****** knowing he was a microtransaction,” one user wrote in response. Indeed, the in-game Silverhand would absolutely lose his mind. He’d probably want to take down Epic Games, too, just like Arasaka.

“V, don’t let them turn me into a marketable cosmetic,” one user wrote, imitating Johnny. “V, please help!” Of course, Johnny isn’t the only one being turned into a cosmetic, as V will also be in the game.

Of course, not every gamer was on board with the irony. “Isn’t Cyberpunk 2077 made by a multi-billion dollar company who threw 400 million dollars into the game’s development?” they wrote. “The irony was already there.”

And then there were the gamers who were excited about the number of memes that will come out of this. “Wake the **** up, samurai, we’ve got a battle royale to win,” a user joked in the thread.

Is it ironic? Probably. Is it cool? Most certainly. That about sums up Johnny’s impending inclusion into Fortnite. Now, if we could get some more Cyberpunk characters into the game. Anyone fancy a Viktor Vektor skin?
