World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery Makes Big Rune Change

World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery recently added new Rune Broker vendors that sell nearly every class Rune in the game for only one copper each. These NPCs, located in the starting zones and capital cities across the game, let fans collect World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery Runes without completing their associated questlines or challenges.

Season of Discovery is World of Warcraft’s ongoing Classic experiment that adds new content to the original game, such as Runes – class-altering abilities that are engraved on pieces of armor. Every Season of Discovery leveling phase has added new Runes for each class, all of which were unlocked via various challenges ranging from enemy drops to lengthy quests that sent players all over Azeroth, like the one required for the World of Warcraft Warlock’s Metamorphosis tanking rune.

World of Warcraft Classic pulls back the curtain on the final phase of Season of Discovery, featuring the Naxxramas raid and some new surprises.

However, Season of Discovery recently added a way to bypass all the work for collecting these Runes. In a recent update partway through WoW Classic Season of Discovery Phase 6, Blizzard added Rune Brokers, new NPCs who sell nearly every class Rune for a single copper. These vendors, easily spotted due to their dark, ominous appearance and glowing blue eyes, are located in the six capital cities and starting zones across Azeroth. This allows both new and existing characters to get their Season of Discovery-specific abilities immediately, without doing their associated quests – though fans should be aware that buying Runes in this way may cause the original quests and secrets to not work correctly.

It appears that these Rune Brokers may not sell certain Runes that are obtained early in the game, such as the Paladin’s Crusader’s Strike and the Druid’s Fury of Stormrage. However, these Runes are awarded by quests in the starting zone, so fans should be able to obtain them within a couple of minutes – especially with the rest of their Runes already unlocked. Other power-ups, such as WoW Classic Season of Discovery Skill Books, are still obtained normally.

Of course, players will need gear to engrave these Runes. Starting zone vendors sell level 1 chest, feet, hands, legs, waist, and wrist armor, but cloaks, helms, and rings are harder to come by. While cloaks can often be found as drops relatively early, characters will usually have to wait until around level 10 to start finding rings, and 20 to get their first helms. That said, fans who have other WoW Classic Season of Discovery characters that gain reputation with Durotar Supply and Logistics or the Azeroth Commerce Authority can purchase level 1, account-bound rings at Revered and helms at Exalted. Using these items, brand-new characters can engrave Runes in every slot as soon as they find a mailbox.
