Summary
- Boruto introduces characters surpassing Naruto and Sasuke’s power.
- Sarada Uchiha gains significant power-ups in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, matching her counterparts.
- Speculation suggests Sarada may surpass Sasuke through a powerful Mangekyou Sharingan or even Rinnegan.
After the conclusion of the Naruto series, Naruto and Sasuke were deemed the apex of power, making it nearly impossible for any shinobi to surpass their legacy. However, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations has toppled this notion by introducing characters that have surpassed Naruto and Sasuke’s precedence. With the introduction of the Otsutsuki clan, along with the Karma Mark, Naruto and Sasuke’s power level is nowhere near comparable to these new characters.
Moreover, the notion of the next generation surpassing the previous one has further made it possible for these new characters to surpass their predecessors. Sarada Uchiha is one such promising character, an underdog who doesn’t possess Otsutsuki’s DNA or any other absurd power-up that has been witnessed so far in the Boruto series. However, Sarada continues to match the pace of her counterparts, making it likely for her to surpass her own father, Sasuke Uchiha.

Sarada’s Current Strength in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex
Sarada Has Recieved Some Power-Ups
By the end of the first part of Boruto, Sarada clearly lagged behind her counterparts. However, after the time skip and the beginning of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Sarada has, to an extent, gained a significant power boost that puts her on the map once more. Sarada’s first and foremost power-up has been witnessed in the form of her Mangekyou Sharingan’s Awakening, a feat that she accomplished after sentiments of affection for Boruto drove her to manifest the Mangekyou.
Apart from gaining the Mangekyou Sharingan, Sarada has been stated to have trained over the 3-year time skip, implying that she has gained considerable power that would make her a useful ally for Boruto and the rest. While the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga is yet to reveal other power-ups and abilities that Sarada might have gained, so far she has awakened her clan’s Kekkei Genkai, along with gaining brute strength similar to her mother’s.
My target is… Sarada Uchiha… – Hidari
Despite her current power-ups, it has been made clear that Sarada does not hold enough strength to stand on her own against her enemies. In her fight against Hidari, a Shinju, Sarada was unable to hold her own. While on the brink of death, she was saved by Boruto at the very last second. This implies that Sarada is yet to manifest her true potential. Still, it’s worth mentioning that Sarada was initially able to land a few blows on Hidari, who is touted to be much stronger than Sasuke Uchiha. Even Hidari himself was impressed by Sarada’s strength, showcasing her growth during the time skip. However, it was clearly not enough to take on powerful foes or match the strength of Boruto and the rest.
How Will Sarada Surpass Sasuke?
Sarada Will Require a More Powerful Dojutsu
There are multiple speculations on how Sarada can surpass Sasuke Uchiha’s legacy, a feat that is in no way easily attainable. The most likely possibility is that Sarada gains extremely powerful Mangekyou abilities that far surpass Sasuke. This is even more likely due to the fact that Sarada’s Mangekyou awakening is quite unique, since she awakened the power through love instead of hate. However, even with a fully awakened Mangekyo Sharingan, Sarada would still not be able to reach Sasuke’s power without the Rinnegan.

Sarada will gain a major power-up in TBV. She will have to take down a shinju on her own.
Sarada awakening the Rinnegan might sound rather absurd, as the Boruto series has never hinted at such a power being obtained by her. However, Sarada possessing the Rinnegan isn’t completely off the table, largely due to the forgotten fact that she could possibly have some of the residual Six Path chakra from Sasuke. While these are only speculations, it is possible for her to awaken the Rinnegan through the genetic makeup of the Sage of Six Paths’ powers that reside within Sasuke.
Why Is It Important For Sarada to Surpass Sasuke?
Sarada’s Power-Up Is Necessary For Her to Stay On Par With Boruto
Some fans of Boruto might be of the opinion that Sarada does not need to surpass Sasuke, since that would undermine his legacy in Naruto. However, Sarada surpassing Sasuke’s legacy is in line with the notion of the next generation surpassing the previous one, a concept that the Naruto series has upheld till Boruto. Moreover, Boruto’s focus is now on the next generation of shinobi, specifically Kawaki, Boruto, Mitsuki, and Sarada. For her to remain in the shadow of her father for the entirety of the series would be a grave injustice to her character.
The current threats in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex possess god-like powers, and with the introduction of Shinju, the series has upped the ante in terms of its power scaling. For Sarada to remain relevant in the narrative, she requires a significant power boost, which could be in the form of an extremely powerful Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan or the Rinnegan. In the process of Sarada staying on par with her counterparts, it is almost guaranteed that she will surpass Sasuke and his legacy.
