The World Government Deemed It To Be A Threat
During One Piece’s Enies Lobby Arc, fans were introduced to Robin’s extremely dark backstory. Coming from an island of scholars called Ohara, Robin, despite being a genius scholar herself, was an outcast child with a mysterious Devil Fruit. Throughout her journey of self-discovery, she meets Jaguar D. Saul, a former Navy Vice Admiral, and the two quickly become friends. At the same time, Robin also learns the ancient language of the Poneglyphs, something that is considered forbidden knowledge by the World Government.

However, because of the illegal research the scholars of Ohara were conducting on One Piece’s ancient Poneglyph, the World Government decided to destroy the island, utilizing the infamous and destructive Buster Call. From here, although Robin was spared by Kuzan, the rest of the island and scholars perished, with the World Government burning the entire Library of Ohara, and all the books inside, to the ground.

As fans would later discover, this wasn’t entirely true. Later on, it was revealed that Jaguar D. Saul had survived his encounter with Kuzan, and went on to save the books of the library. After this, the former Navy officer employs the help of the New Giant Pirates to retrieve the books and bring them to the island of Elbaf, the Giants’ island. From here, the books were kept safe from the clutches of the World Government, where they now rest in modern One Piece.

With the Straw Hat Crew finally arriving at Elbaf Island, it shouldn’t be too long before Robin stumbles upon the books that were able to frighten even One Piece’s World Government. After Robin’s tearful reunion with Sual, the giant will most likely show Robin the knowledge that her mother and the other scholars of Ohara were trying to protect. With this newfound knowledge, although she already knows the language of the Poneglyphs, Robin could discover more information on things like the Void Century or the Ancient Weapons that she couldn’t discover as a child.

However, most importantly for Robin, these books hold the ability to continue passing down the knowledge of Poneglyphs to future generations. Robin’s motivation in One Piece surrounds her desire to preserve history and explore the true history that the World Government attempted to cover up. For Robin, the loss of the Library of Ohara was another major loss in her quest to uncover the Void Century, as it just became another part of history the World Government had erased. Now that it’s been recovered, Robin can preserve the history that her ancestors and family of scholars in Ohara worked so hard to cultivate.

In the end, while the revelations in the library of One Piece’s Elbaf may not be the most earth-shattering, it’ll be interesting to see just what information the books hold. Although it could be small, it may also reveal small details of the Void Century or Ancient Weapons. However, what it includes doesn’t matter nearly as much as the small victory these books will give Robin, who now has a much better chance of preserving the knowledge of Ohara for future generations in One Piece.
