Snow has returned to GTA Online. Every year, Rockstar transforms the world of Los Santos into a crime-ridden winter wonderland. Players can drive around, skidding along the slippery roads, head to the top of Mount Chiliad, and take some pictures of the snowy regions below, and more. One of the coolest features that comes with GTA Online’s snow is the ability to pick up and throw snowballs.
For just a couple of weeks each year, players can get into huge snowball fights with others and enjoy the wintery chaos that ensues. Those who haven’t yet played the game during the festive period might not know how to pick up and throw snowballs. This guide will fix that.

How To Pick Up Snowballs
The buttons will vary from console to console. However, no matter whether you are on PC, Xbox, or PlayStation, you’ll need to put away your weapon before you can pick up snowballs. Snowballs can only be picked up if you are unarmed. Provided you are standing on a patch of snow, you can pick up snowballs. The button to pick up snowballs for each of the main consoles can be seen below:
- PC: G
- PlayStation: Left On The D-Pad
- Xbox: Right On The D-Pad
Each time you bend down to pick up snowballs, you’ll gain three in your inventory. You can access them via the weapon wheel. However, when you pick up snowballs, they’ll automatically become the ‘weapon’ that you are holding. You can hold a total of 9 snowballs and there’s no limit as to how many times you can make new ones.
How To Throw Snowballs
Throwing a snowball works the same as aiming and firing with any other weapon. Simply find your intended target, aim your snowball in their direction, and fire. Because it’s the festive season, most players will put away their weapons and join in a friendly snowball fight.
One thing that’s worth keeping in mind is that when you run out of snowballs, your character will automatically resort to punching when you press the attack button. Be sure to pick up more snowballs before you run out of the ones you are holding. Nothing ruins a snowball fight faster than a random punch delivered to another player.
Not only can you engage in snowball fights with other players, but you can hit just about everything you can imagine. NPCs will run, cars will speed off, and if you aren’t careful, you may land yourself in some hot water with the cops. One other fun thing you can do with a snowball is knock down other player’s bikes. This doesn’t really accomplish much, but it’s fun!
