Genshin Impact immerses you in the vast world of Teyvat, where you embark on a journey to explore its seven nations: Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, Fontaine, Natlan, and Snezhnaya. Each nation features multiple sub-regions and side areas to explore, offering breathtaking scenery and numerous treasure-filled chests.
While exploration has always been rewarding due to the abundance of chests, Genshin Impact has further incentivized it by introducing progression rewards in newly released regions. Starting with the Genshin Impact 5.1 update, HoYoverse began offering 300 Primogems for achieving 40%, 60%, and 80% Exploration Progress in new regions, along with an additional 100 Primogems for completing the main world quest series of the region. This update has given players a strong motivation to thoroughly explore the Pyro Nation.
To claim the Primogem
from the Exploration event, you must increase your Exploration Progress in the regions specified in the Events tab. Don’t worry if you’re new to the game and unsure how to do it — this guide will talk about the various ways to improve your Exploration Progress in Genshin Impact.

What Counts Toward Exploration Progress In Genshin Impact?
In Genshin Impact, certain activities contribute to your Exploration Progress percentage. Below are some of the easiest ways to increase it:
- Collecting Elemental Oculi
- Unlocking teleport waypoints and Statues of the Seven
- Opening chests
- Unlocking Shrines
- Investigating Mora Boxes in water
One of the simplest ways to improve your Exploration Progress is by collecting Elemental Oculi and unlocking all teleport waypoints. While some are locked behind world quests, most can be found by thoroughly exploring the world.
Players can also use regional Treasure Compasses and Elemental Resonance Stones to locate nearby chests and Oculi.

How To Check Exploration Progress In Genshin Impact
To check your Exploration Progress, open the world map. At the bottom right of the screen, you can view the Exploration Progress for your current area. To see the progress of an entire region, zoom out until the region names are visible. The Exploration Progress will be displayed beneath the region names.
Tips For Increasing Exploration Progress In Genshin Impact
Once you’ve unlocked teleport waypoints and collected most of the Oculi, the next step is to focus on unlocking chests. Chests can be found lying in the open, locked behind enemies, or hidden within puzzles and challenges.
If you haven’t unlocked Treasure Compass gadgets, finding chests can be challenging. In such cases, it’s recommended to complete world quest series in a region, such as the Tracer No Tracing and Seeker No Finding quests, to unlock hidden areas rich with chests, including Luxurious and Precious ones for Primogems.
Another effective strategy is unlocking shrines in each region. Unlocking a shrine increases the region’s Exploration Progress by a few percent, and the chest inside the shrine also contributes to the progress.
Lastly, if you’re committed to grinding for Exploration Progress, the official HoYoLab Interactive Map for Genshin Impact is an invaluable tool. It displays the locations of all available chests in Teyvat. Community notes under each chest marker can guide you to the exact location, as some chests are hidden behind puzzles, challenges, or quests.
