Helldivers 2 Fans Are Worried The Illuminate Is Going To Get Stronger

Summary

  • Helldivers 2 fans are starting to get concerned that stronger Illuminate weapons are on the way.
  • One Reddit user recently noticed that the Tripods appear in level 3 difficulty missions, while another noticed that they’re tagged as “heavies” rather than “elites”.
  • That seems to suggest that stronger Illuminate forces are waiting in the wings, but we just don’t know when the faction is going to show its full hand.

Helldivers 2’s long-awaited Illuminate faction is finally here, and it’s throwing hands. Sure, we may have been able to wipe out the initial invasion on Calypso in no time at all, but several other invasions have been occurring since, and we have only managed to actually find the weak spots in the Illuminate after days of getting spread across the floor like room temperature butter.

The Illuminate is widely accepted as the toughest enemy that Helldivers 2 has so far, and much bulkier than the Automatons and Terminids. Right now, the strongest weapon the Illuminate have to throw at us is their imposing Tripods, though the recent discovery that their joints are a weak spot has made them a little easier to deal with.

Helldivers 2 Proves Easier Can Be Better

“No pain, no gain” isn’t always the best policy. Sometimes, making it easier on the players can increase playtime and activity.

That has led to the more experienced Helldivers out there getting a bit too big for their britches, though some believe the worst is yet to come from the Illuminate. A Reddit post from MelodicCriticism2705 earlier this week has made a pretty decent case for even stronger Illuminate weapons being held back, and that “worse and more challenging” enemies are on the way.

In the post, MelodicCriticism2705 points out that the Illuminate’s Tripods can actually be encountered in Level 3 Difficulty missions, putting them on par with something like the Automaton’s Hulk, or the Terminid’s Chargers. Stronger enemies obviously only appear in the more difficult missions, suggesting that the Illuminate haven’t quite revealed everything in its arsenal.

Another user called Serious-Natural-2691 has also pointed out that Tripods are tagged as “heavies” during games instead of “elites”, so that is pretty much conclusive proof that there is something far nastier coming from the Illuminate. We just have no idea when.

Whatever it is, we know that it’s going to impose the greatest challenge that Helldivers 2 players have seen so far. Chief creative officer Johan Pilestedt suggested as much in a recent interview, claiming that the Illuminate are no pushover, and that “a high-difficulty Illuminate mission is going to be a tremendous challenge for even the most experienced players.” Sweet liberty, save us all.
