Every Civ 7 Leader Revealed So Far

Civilization 7 is currently scheduled for release in February 2025. Despite such a short amount of time left in the game’s development cycle, there still seems to be plenty left to learn. Speaking purely based on what has been revealed already, it does seem fair to say that Civilization 7 will retain age-old features of the series while adding a healthy dose of its own depth.

Leaders are one of the main attractions to the Civilization series, especially as far as the community is concerned. Every Leader in Civilization comes with their own unique traits, meaning everyone will have their preferred Leader to play as. Civilization 7 has revealed seventeen Leaders so far, with more supposedly on their way.

Civilization 7 is adding a bevy of new leaders, including Amina the Warrior Queen, who some fans might recognize from a previous franchise entry.

Every Playable Leader Revealed in Civilization 7 So Far

While previous games tied Leaders down to the region their real life counterpart hailed from, Civilization 7 allows players the freedom to mix and match. Furthermore, it is worth noting that the title of ‘Leader’ does not solely include historical figures that were literal rulers of a given region. Instead, the term extends to those who were known throughout history for their exceptional leadership qualities.

Almost every Leader in the game has their own information page, all of which can be viewed on the official Civilization 7 website. The full list of Leaders that have been revealed in Civilization 7 is as follows:

  • Amina
  • Ashoka
  • Augustus
  • Benjamin Franklin
  • Charlemagne
  • Confucius
  • Harriet Tubman
  • Hatshepsut
  • Himiko
  • Ibn Battuta
  • Isabella
  • Machiavelli
  • Napoleon Bonaparte
  • Pachacuti
  • Tecumseh
  • Trung Trac
  • Xerxes

Of the seventeen Leaders revealed so far, three of them have alternate forms, which the game refers to as ‘Personas’. Personas fundamentally change what abilities a player will have access to. Ashoka is playable both in his World Conqueror Persona and his World Renouncer Persona. Napoleon Bonaparte features an Emperor Persona, as well as a Revolutionary Persona. Finally, Xerxes can be played as the King of Kings, or as the Achaemenid.

Civilization 7’s Leaders Have Something for Everyone

As with many games of a similar scope, the reveal and release of new characters is perhaps the most exciting sort of information to trickle out from trailers and the like. Among the roster so far, there are plenty of returning characters, along with a few fresh faces.

Napoleon is a mainstay of Civilization, so it’s not surprising to see him back in Civ 7. His multiple Personas aren’t the only thing that make him stand out, as he is also a reward of sorts. In order to unlock Napoleon, players simply have to link their 2K account with the game itself. It’s not surprising that developers would tie such an otherwise menial task to one of the Civilization franchise’s most iconic Leaders.

Napoleon isn’t alone either, thanks to the inclusion of characters like Himiko. Himiko is the black sheep of the group for unrelated reasons, those being that much of her information is currently TBA. Himiko’s attributes simply haven’t been officially announced yet. Himiko returns as a Leader from Civilization 6, meaning she is still relatively new to the series, all things considered.

Harriet Tubman is the newest Leader to be announced for Civilization 7, and a bold step forward in all the right ways. In essence, her inclusion reaffirms the game’s commitment to include Leaders that were not simply the head of state somewhere in the world. This was previously best represented by Ghandi’s recurring role as a Leader; it’s nice to see this vision upheld for another person that remains a touchstone of her nation’s history. There are supposedly still several more Leaders left to be revealed in Civilization 7, and the direction shown so far indicates that the next reveals may be in good hands.
