These maps serve as the battlegrounds for each trial, and nearly all of them belong to a realm, which houses more than version of the same or a very similar map, some of which may be familiar fr fans of certain games or movies. With so many realms players have the chance of being teleported to, it can be a hard task to tell which ones are the best.

Macmillan Estate
Decently Balanced for Both Sides
One of the original maps that came with the base game, the Macmillan Estate has stood the test as one of the more basic but safe choices of maps. The rusted iron works or decrepit buildings add plenty of personality to the map, while not straying too far from a place intended for gritty realism. It is definitely the sort of location one could imagine encountering a dangerous and ruthless killer, perhaps one who ensnares their prey with bear traps.
It has since had reworks since its original release, resulting in better map balance and visuals. With the release of the Skull Merchant, one version of Macmillan became her maps, complete with an alarming amount of mannequins gathered around a workshop, improving the aesthetics without upsetting the balance too drastically.

Lery’s Memorial Estate
This Indoor Map is a Medical Horror
Dead by Daylight’s debut fully interior map, Lery’s is a shocking that serves as the Doctor’s realm. Comprised of a center room featuring some very distracting and noisy monitors, and a labyrinth of corridors and rooms, some of which can be chained together in a looping route, there is much to enjoy about Lery’s, but certain killers will despair when placed on it.
Ranged killers such as Huntress will struggle to land hatchets in many places for the survivors to duck into out of the firing range. But stealth killers, especially ones such as the scratched mirror Michael Myers, will benefit hugely from all those walls and obstacles which will allow them to jumpscare all the survivors.

Yamaoka Estate
Home to the Spirit and Oni
Yamoaka Estate is a realm split across two maps, Sanctum of Wrath and Family Residence, belonging to the Oni and the Spirit respectively. Each of these maps draws inspiration from rural Japan, resulting in some beautiful scenery, if players ever have the chance to stop and admire it while running for their lives.

Midwich Elementary School
Explore the Eerie School from Silent Hill
Despite Behavior collecting horror movie IPs like they are Pokemon Cards, there are few fans who foresaw that they would strike deals with developers to feature characters and locations from their game, especially Konami, who until recent times, were content leaving Silent Hill in limbo. Expectations were smashed when they revealed Cheryl Mason, Pyramid Head, and Midwich Elementary were coming to the fog, and all three proved popular and successful.
Featuring two separate floors, easter eggs, and even an unlockable secret, there are many things to enjoy about Midwich while trying to run to the nearest generator, which could be on an entirely different floor. While navigation on this map can take some getting used to, there is no denying that there is an impressive amount of detail that even non-Silent Hill fans could appreciate.

Raccoon City Police Department
From Resident Evil 2 Fame
The Resident Evil crossover was one met with much excitement and fanfare from players, who were excited to see another legendary game IP join the fog, alongside Silent Hill. The first RE crossover brought in Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Nemesis, and the Raccoon City Police Department, featuring many famous rooms and locations fans would recognize from the game.
The problem with the original map was the pure scale of it, as Behavior wanted to stuff as many iconic locations in it as possible. The police department was eventually split into two, the east and west wings, to make a more manageable map without sacrificing any of the iconic scenery.

Coldwind Farm
Takes Inspiration from Films Like Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Though these maps are part of the base game, there is nothing basic about them, especially after the reworks which drastically improved this realm’s viability. Taking clear inspiration from movies such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, versions of Coldwind include tall corn fields, abattoirs and large farmhouses, all perfect for hiding or hunting.
The rework brought light to the realm, and while this made these maps less frightening, sneaky killers can still cause tension, and the light gives bonus visibility to both sides of the trial. Coldwind remains one of the most famous and all-around best realms in the entire game.

Decimated Borgo
Home to the Dungeons and Dragons Map
Decimated Borgo adds some lacking medieval flare to the game. Originally a stand-alone realm for the Knight, featuring a very red map fashioned after a medieval village with portcullises as the exit gates out of the realm.

This by itself is enough to give Decimated Borgo plenty of brownie points, but the inclusion of Dungeons and Dragons added a second map to the realm which surpassed the first. Featuring a beautiful purple arcane room, portals players can hop through to make a quick escape, and an imprisoned beholder that will throw itself against the bars at a passing survivor, there is plenty of D&D flair to make this map stand out from the rest.

The Grave of Glenvale
Plenty of Western Goodness
A spaghetti western is likely not what fans imagine ever having a place in Dead by Daylight, but Grave of Glenvale provides plenty of Wild West goodness into the fog. Arriving alongside the Deathslinger killer, this map features a picturesque sunset, plenty of wooden buildings and sheds, cacti, and, of course, a saloon right in the center of it all.
This realm has yet to receive any other maps outside of Dead Dawg Saloon, but with a map as fun, aesthetically pleasing, and with plenty of walls that offer fun and challenging chases for both killers and survivors, no other map within this realm could ever hope to match the original. While it’s far from perfect and the theme won’t appeal to everyone, Grave of Glenvale remains a strong contender for the best realms in the entire game.

Mount Ormond
A Survivor Sided Snow-Capped Resort
Mount Ormond is one of the older maps in the game, implemented alongside the release of the Legion quarter of killers, and survivor Jeff. It was the third map to have weather effects, and so far the only one to feature snow. Despite being a resort, there are few comforts survivors will find here with a merciless killer stomping around the ground, intent on killing them.
The map is infamous for being more tilted to the side of survivors, featuring many strong looping points, unparalleled lines of sight, and the center gen placed in a massive building that skilled survivors can kite killers around for quite a while. But with how open a lot of the map is, ranged killers can also benefit from Mount Ormond’s design.
