All the faces behind the heroes in Marvel Rivals.
As almost all the maps in Marvel Rivals are limited to their own modes, it isn’t easy to rank them just based on how they play. With seven maps in the game divided into three core gamemodes, chances are you’ll regularly see the same map in your matches. So, with that said, which ones should you look forward to the most?
Updated on December 19, 2024, by Daniyal Sultan Malik: The full launch of Marvel Rivals introduced four new maps, including two Domination, one Convoy, and one Convergence map. These maps are in active rotation in both Quick Play and Competitive, and you can even access them in Custom Games for practice. Although they’re generally balanced from start to finish, a few segments, specifically in the new Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda maps, slightly favor one side.

Tokyo 2099: Shin-Shibuya
Match Format: Convergence
One of the two maps set in Tokyo 2099, Shin-Shibuya, is quite reminiscent of Hanamura from Overwatch, but it has enough differences to make it stand out. This is an impressive map in terms of art style as it mixes a futuristic Japanese setting with cyberpunk and neon lighting. There are also many Marvel references, such as the Pixel Corp and the Alchemix headquarters.
Due to Shin Shibuya’s nature of hosting Convergence, a lot of this map consists of narrow alleyways. This can lead to a lot of tense situations, with sneaky corners and vertical areas that allow you to get the jump on your opponents. But, overall, this map just doesn’t feel as fun as the others.
Most of the rooms near the objective in Shin-Shibuya come with healing packs, so make sure to use them whenever you need them!

Tokyo 2099: Spider-Islands
Match Format: Convoy
- Most Suitable Hero Class: Vanguard.
The other map set in Tokyo 2099 is Spider-Islands and its Japanese garden-esque setting is much calmer and more peaceful than Shin-Shibuya although just as beautiful. This map feels much truer to authentic Japanese culture with its Japanese temples, trees, and buildings, just with a slightly futuristic twist to them.

Just like Shin-Shibuya, this map also has plenty of alleyways where stopping the convoy can be challenging, as defenders can easily group up and make life hard for the attackers. What makes this map slightly better though, is the number of wooden destructible houses along the way, which can open up a lot of space and make room to take more individual duels.

Yggsgard: Yggdrasill Path
Match Format: Convoy
- Most Suitable Hero Class: Duelist.
The Yggsgard maps, in general, are a mix of Asgard fused with the world tree Yggdrasil, which is ruled by the God of Mischief Loki. This map makes up the pathway to Yggdrasill and consists of several huge Asgardian statues and grand buildings in a primarily outdoor setting.
The Yggdrasill Path is suited for Convoy and makes for much more fun games than the Spider-Islands. A mix of alleys and wide-open spaces, along with plenty of buildings for attackers to position themselves on, and plenty of room for flying heroes to make an impact makes this map feel a lot more balanced.
Taking the high ground is a great strategy on most maps, but it works exceptionally well on the Yggdrasill Path. Attackers can use their ranged attacks to target enemies around the convoy and the best way for defenders to counter this is by targeting the floors and buildings near these attackers.
5
Intergalactic Empire Of Wakanda: Hall Of Djalia
Match Format: Convergence
- Most Suitable Hero Class: Duelist.
The sheer vibrancy and detail of the Hall of Djalia make it the most gorgeous map in Marvel Rivals. The subtle peacefulness before and during the match complements the stunning backdrop, immersing you in the Wakandan vibe. You can see the care put into the environment by looking at the statues and architecture covering the map.

Here’s how to dominate the battlefield as Scarlet Witch in Marvel Rivals!
Layout-wise, the Hall of Djalia has a ton of verticality, though a few spots are either too tall or niche to encourage camping. This issue, despite not being as relevant in Quick Play, remains consistent throughout the match. Still, the map is practically the ideal size for its respective game mode, despite its minor structural shortcomings.
If you’re playing as an attacker, be sure to clear the big tree on the left as you exit your first spawn. There’s a good reason a DPS hero might be hiding there!
4
Intergalactic Empire Of Wakanda: Birnin T’Challa
Match Format: Domination
- Most Suitable Hero Class: Vanguard.
Like the Hall of Djalia, you can’t help but adore the striking visuals of Birnin T’Challa. Serene waters, live statues, and even a giant spacecraft—these levels have it all, and they’re incredibly distinct, too. The objective areas are as simple as you can get, with large, open platforms that you can only attack from one side.
Unlike other Domination maps, most of the action in Birnin T’Challa happens away from the objective, since the last thing you want is to stand vulnerable in an unobstructed area. However, when the objective is contested, the center stage becomes absolutely chaotic, and the match peaks in excitement.
3
Yggsgard: Royal Palace
Match Format: Domination
- Most Suitable Hero Class: Strategist.
If grand, Asgardian architecture is something you enjoy, then you are bound to love Yggsgard: Royal Palace. This undoubtedly captures Asgard’s spirit, including its beautifully made indoor castles with amazing interiors.

9 Heroes We Would Love To See In Marvel Rivals
With an incredible roster, Marvel Rivals has nearly every character any fan could ask for, however there are still some we would love to see added in.
The zones in Domination are a mix of spacious, outdoor areas, such as the Bifrost Gardens, the indoor Throne Room, and the circular Odin’s Archive, which makes for some of the most fun and unique battles. All in all, the versatility and the different types of terrain in the Yggsgard: Royal Palace make it a much more fun map to play when compared to most others in the game.
2
Hydra Charteris Base: Hell’s Heaven
Match Format: Domination
- Most Suitable Hero Class: Duelist.
Of all the Domination maps in Marvel Rivals, the trio at Hell’s Heaven is easily the most creative and open-ended because of its dynamic nature. The moving pillars around the objective offer repositioning and a great source of defense. It incentivizes you to assess the map as well as the enemies, and learning to utilize those pillars to your advantage adds a layer of depth.
The Hydra Base maps are also fairly large—you can focus on and attack the objective through several unsuspecting angles. Rather than recklessly charging toward the center, you can understand the map’s verticality to find a key spot to aid your team, especially as a Duelist.
1
Klyntar: Symbiotic Surface
Match Format: Convergence
- Most Suitable Hero Class: Strategist.
On top of nailing the aesthetics, what truly makes Klyntar special is its size and interactivity. This is a huge map with various hideaway locations, so it inspires exploration and devising unique escape tactics. There aren’t any cheap camping spots here that unfairly favor defenders; in fact, it’s the opposite, since staying still in narrower segments is a death sentence.
Aside from that, you can find gray blobs scattered across the map that you can use for platforming. Attacking these blobs can create elevators, temporary bridges, and more, making the overall match much more fluid. It gives Klyntar the one aspect every map needs: meaningful environmental tools that ultimately create thrilling moments.
