Thankfully, you don’t have to risk becoming shark bait, as there are quite a few ways to keep it at bay and gather Seaweed with ease. It’s a crucial resource that’s simple to collect once you’ve dealt with the predator lurking below.
How To Get Seaweed
Seaweed is found underwater on the shimmering, large kelp plants that grow in clusters around island ecosystems. Unlike other underwater materials like Clay and Sand, you don’t need a hook to harvest Seaweed; you simply need to pick it by hand.
However, before you dive, make sure your raft is anchored with at least a Throwable Anchor so it doesn’t drift off while you’re exploring.
Moreover, if you’re playing on difficulties above Peaceful, the shark will pose an issue, but you can keep it busy by crafting Shark Bait, which gives you a few minutes of distraction to gather Seaweed safely. Alternatively, you’ll need to arm yourself with a spear and take it down, though the fight won’t be easy.
The shark is programmed to stick near your raft and will typically attack if you’re underwater nearby. However, if you park your raft at one end of an island and gather Seaweed far from it, the shark will stay by the raft and leave you alone, letting you safely collect as much Seaweed as you need.
How To Use Seaweed
Seaweed may have a short list of uses, but it’s still a key material in Raft. It’s used to research and craft Flippers and Vine Goo, both of which are essential for survival and progression.
Flippers are a handy upgrade for underwater exploration, as they let you swim faster and gather materials more efficiently. Vine Goo, on the other hand, is incredibly versatile. It’s a must-have for crafting essential items like Circuit Boards for advanced devices such as the Battery, which powers electric equipment, and Oxygen Bottles for longer underwater dives.
You can also feed Seaweed into a Recycler to produce Trash Cubes, the currency used at Trading Posts to buy items and blueprints.
