While some consoles may have more games, and others may have more money, there is no escaping the fact that, culturally, the Xbox 360 was Microsoft’s biggest success, and one they don’t seem to have a chance of reaching again. There’s a reason the XBox 360 was so popular, for its wide variety of games, to the social features it capitalized on.

The Longest-Lasting Video Game Consoles
We all want our consoles to last. Well here are the video game consoles that have lasted the longest.
Across its long life, quite a few games were launched on the Xbox 360, and the console lasted a pretty long time, too. So let’s get into the nitty-gritty and see just how many games the Xbox 360 has in total.
How Many Games Were Released On The Xbox 360?
The Xbox 360 marked a specific point in Microsoft’s history in gaming. It was a turning point for the company, the point in which they took gaming seriously, and invested into it as an art form. Not just by the games it funded, but the systems itself. The Xbox 360 thrived not just because it had a bunch of great games, but because it had a healthy, thriving online infrastructure to give them more life.
That’s part of why you see so many multiplayer and competitive games on the Xbox 360, though there are a fair few single-player adventures there as well. And so quite how many games were there in total? It’s not the easiest answer to find with many digital-exclusive games no longer available, and some exclusive regional releases.
The Xbox 360 store officially shut down in July 2024.
Approximately though, there are around 2,100 games made just for the Xbox 360. It’s a fairly remarkable number for a console that didn’t have a very long history behind it to take off so successfully. And while many of them have been left behind, at least a decent few of those games are still available on successor Xbox consoles through backwards compatibility.
When Was The Last Game Released For The Xbox 360?
From the release of the Xbox 360 in late 2005 to the launch of its successor, the Xbox One in 2013, the number of games understandably started to dwindle for it. That said, it didn’t stop entirely. In fact, it continued almost up until the release of the Xbox One successor.
And what game holds the title for the final game launched on the Xbox 360? None other than Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2019, released on October 23rd 2018 in North America. With that, the grand life of the Xbox 360 came to an end. From start to finish, that is almost 13 full years of video game releases. An impressive feat for any console.
Just Dance 2019 was also the final game published by Ubisoft on the Wii U. Dancing is popular.
What Were The Launch Titles For The Xbox 360?
Coming out only a short four years on from the original Xbox, the 360 had a point to prove. It couldn’t launch with a small library. It needed to have variety, especially if it wanted to take away some of PlayStation’s very solid lead. And to its credit (at least in Europe and North America), it did. A hefty number of games released, covering brand new first-person shooters to established sports games. There was a little bit of everything for everyone.
- North America – November 22nd, 2005.
- Europe – December 2nd, 2005.
- Japan – December 10th, 2005.
Another strong point in favour of the Xbox 360 was its relatively simultaneous launch in many markets around the world, Japan especially. Microsoft struggled to make an impact with the original Xbox there, and while the 360 didn’t become a roaring success, it was a decent improvement over the original, especially once Japanese developed games, such as Blue Dragon, started to appear.

There are quite a few games there, even if they are spread across the various regions a bit. In total, across all regions, that gives us a grand total of 20 games across the world. That’s a pretty damn good number when you want to make a name for yourself, and in the case of the Xbox 360, it clearly paid off.
