Looks like Funko finally ain’t afraid of no animated ghosts. After nearly four decades, the cartoon versions of the Ghostbusters are getting the Pop treatment, with the company announcing their first-ever line based on The Real Ghostbusters animated series.
Unlike their movie-based predecessors, these figures capture the distinct style that made the cartoon so memorable. From Egon’s impossible blonde pompadour to Slimer’s cartoonishly mischievous grin, each piece pulls straight from the Saturday morning adventures that kept kids glued to their TV sets throughout the late ’80s and early ’90s
Inside The Real Ghostbusters Funko Pops
Speaking of our favorite spook-hunters, let’s break down what Funko’s cooked up. Egon comes complete with his PKE meter and those iconic red glasses, looking every bit the serious scientist we remember. Ray, ever the enthusiast, is clutching a ghost trap with the kind of excitement only he could muster for potentially dangerous paranormal equipment.
Winston, the team’s voice of reason (and let’s face it, probably the only one with actual life insurance), stands confidently with a determined look on his face. But the real showstopper? A special two-pack featuring Peter Venkman with everyone’s favorite green glutton, Slimer. Talk about a love-hate relationship captured in vinyl.
At the standard Pop! height of about 3.75 inches, these figures hit that sweet spot between display-worthy collectible and desk-friendly size. The attention to detail is impressive, from the varied shades of their uniforms to the tiny Ghostbusters logos and equipment straps. Even Slimer, sized down appropriately, maintains his mischievous charm without overwhelming his human companion.
These Pops finally give the animated series its due, celebrating the unique character designs that made it stand out. Pre-orders are live as of now, and the lineup will be released on February 12, 2025.
Now, these puppies work great as individual pieces, but let’s be real, seeing all four Ghostbusters lined up together (with Slimer hovering nearby) is definitely the way to go. So don’t wait for a sign from Gozer. If you want to add these spectral specials to your collection, head over to Amazon and get your pre-order in.
Something tells me these are going to fly off the shelves faster than a proton-pack-propelled ghost.
