Pokemon TCG Pocket Players Think Druddigon Is Mythical Island’s Best Card

Summary

  • Druddigon may be the best new card with its Rough Skin ability.
  • It counters stalling strategies by dealing damage each time it’s hit.
  • Redditors believe Druddigon diversifies the meta, making it versatile.

Since its second expansion was released earlier this week, Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket players have been trying to figure out the game’s new meta. Cards like Mew ex, Tauros, and Aerodactyl ex have all shone individually, while a deck including both Celebi ex and Serperior has taken the meta by storm.

Next month’s promo card has caused a bit of a stir.

But as time has passed, and the meta has started to evolve, there’s one unexpected card that players think trumps them all—Druddigon

Is Druddigon Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket’s Best New Card?

If you’ve battled in Pokemon TCG Pocket since the Mythical Island expansion was released, you’ll notice lots of Mew ex, Celebi ex, and Serperior. While these cards are clearly great, debate is raging as to whether they’re truly the best, or whether it’s the underrated Druddigon.

A lot of decks in Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket require you to stall the game while you build energies on your more powerful Pokemon—the Mewtwo ex deck is a prime example of this— but this often means leaving a Pokemon out to dry, giving your opponent a point with no rebuttal. Druddigon could be the perfect counter to this.

Its ability, Rough Skin, deals 20 damage to an opponent’s Pokemon every time it receives damage from an attack. It’s perfect for chipping away a small amount of HP from an opposition Pokemon, allowing the following Pokemon to come in and KO it.

A discussion on Reddit debating Druddigon’s status as the ‘best new card’ was inconclusive, but there was plenty of evidence to suggest that it may be the case.

3Dan01 made the case by saying, “He’s the new Kangaskhan, except he doesn’t require energy. Early game, basic wall that only costs one prize card and can provide some chip. Very versatile and useful.” Worldly_Table_5092 added that it “Solos Farfetch’d by doing nothing.”

He’s the new Kangaskhan, except he doesn’t require energy.

AcephalicDude called it a “very well-designed card, not necessarily overpowered but just opens up so many options and diversifies the meta,” which arguably sums the debate up best.

While it’s hard to quantify what the best card truly is, there’s certainly a case to be made that Druddigon is one of the most surprising and underrated new additions. And with the new Emblem Battle Event now live, it’s worth considering for your deck.
