The Guy That Doesn’t Care About Queen Bee
Mona Kawai is the most popular girl at her high school, and she loves the attention she is able to get. Everybody falls for her charms. Or almost everybody… because there is this boy who doesn’t seem to care about her. But she is determined to change this and puts all her efforts into trying to seduce him.
That will be a hard battle, because the boy, Medaka Kuroiwa, is actually training to be a monk. So he is indeed doing his best not to be tempted by worldly pleasures. And worst of all, she tries so hard to seduce him that she ends up falling for him!
Meet the Main Characters
Medaka Kuroiwa, a second year high school boy, is the protagonist of this series. He is training to be a monk at his family’s temple, and he has been openly instructed not to fall in love with anyone, which becomes a problem when Mona and other girls start chasing him.
Mona Kawai can also be considered a protagonist, since the story is actually told from her perspective. She is also in the second year of high school, and she moved from Osaka to Tokyo (which might add to her charm, she mostly uses Kansai dialect when she’s upset). She is vain, and being the school’s queen bee makes her very happy. That’s one of the reasons she is frustrated that Medaka doesn’t give her any attention.
Besides Mona, other girls also try to get closer to Medaka, like Tsubomi and Tomo. For those who might want to have a better idea of what to expect, Kodansha USA publishes the original manga in English. The story, penned by Ran Kuze, has been serialized since 2021, with 17 volumes so far.
Medaka Kuroiwa Main Staff
Studio SynergySP (Girlfriend, Girlfriend) is handling the animation, with Yoshiaki Okumura (The Fruit of Evolution, Ikuze! Gen-san) as director. Kuzuyuki Fudeyasu (Dropkick on My Devil!) is the head writer, and Mayumi Watanabe (Elf ban Kakyusei, Freezing) is in charge of the character designs. Akiyuki Tateyama is composing the movie, and he previously worked on The Elusive Samurai.
Cast and Music Themes
The main cast features Yu Serizawa (Mini Yaemori in Rent-A-Girlfriend) as Mona and Ryota Iwasaki (Kiminobu Kogure in The First Slam Dunk) as Medaka. Hololive VTuber unit AyaFubuMi performs the opening song, “Ame Tokimeki Koi Moyō,” and Kaori Maeda (2.5 Dimensional Seduction theme songs as Ririsa Amano) performs the ending theme, “Kyunapi.”
