Save Bosch: Legacy was launched in September 2024, after Amazon abruptly canceled the show. The petition on change.org initially set out to hit 15,000 signatures in order to persuade Amazon to do a U-Turn and give the creative team an opportunity to end the story properly. The Save Bosch: Legacy petition has smashed its target and currently has over 16,000 signatures. The fans need to keep signing it to heap more pressure on the streaming giant.
Bosch: Legacy wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the tenacity of the fans back in 2020, when they launched a similar campaign to extend Harry Bosch’s solo stories past the seven seasons of the original Bosch series. Amazon listened to just over 10,000 fans who signed that petition and, as a result, they launched Bosch: Legacy in 2022. The current petition is proof that Bosch: Legacy is even more popular than the original series, so if Amazon don’t renew it this time, something is seriously wrong.

Amazon Haven’t Renewed Bosch: Legacy Yet, So The Petition Needs To Keep Going
The petition to Save Bosch: Legacy has exceeded all expectations, and it proves that fans really do have a voice, and they will keep going until their ultimate goal is achieved. Save Bosch: Legacy is not just a petition, it’s a movement. Fans are sick and tired of companies like Amazon canceling their favorite shows, and giving them bogus reasons for doing so. They canceled Bosch: Legacy and then they lied about it. In the midst of Hollywood’s attempted recovery from the strikes, Amazon essentially fired thousands of hard-working crew members without so much as a warning. Many people worked for over a decade on Michael Connelly’s crime universe, and they were treated with absolutely no respect and dignity. To add to this, it looks like they haven’t been able to speak out publicly about it for fear of losing their jobs on the Ballard spin-off.
Over 16,000 signatures is an impressive feat, and it proves how determined the Bosch: Legacy fan base are, but the juggernaut must continue. There are so many fans out there who haven’t signed yet, so it’s a case of spreading the word, and getting more signatures. Bosch: Legacy has consistently raked in millions of viewers, so exposure is the key to the success of the petition.

The Save Bosch: Legacy Petition Has Uncovered A Potentially Darker Side To Amazon And A Serious Problem With The Hollywood Industry
After it was announced that Bosch: Legacy would end after the third season airs in March 2025, fans were absolutely baffled. Was this a joint decision between Amazon and the creative team to end Harry Bosch’s solo story and a planned set up for the Renee Ballard spin-off series to take center stage? In a word, no. Titus Welliver’s appearance on a YouTube channel revealed that he and the rest of the team fully expected to go back to shoot a fourth season in January 2025. The end of Bosch: Legacy wasn’t a creative decision: it was Amazon deciding it didn’t want to invest in expanding the Bosch-verse. The Bosch: Legacy fans launched the petition on September 8, 2024, and just over three months later, it hit its target and continues to grow.
Despite Amazon’s statement promising more to come in the Bosch-verse, they axed plans for the Jerry Edgar spin-off a few weeks after Bosch: Legacy‘s abrupt end was announced. This raised serious questions about the chances for the Ballard spin-off, which would now be the only show moving forward in the crime universe. Michael Connelly released his own statement reflecting on the end of Bosch: Legacy, and while remaining upbeat, it felt like he really had no choice due to his continued working relationship with Amazon on Ballard. Fans questioned if Harry Bosch’s guest spots in Ballard would be enough, especially with his own solo story coming to an end. Not to mention, Bosch was a joint co-lead with Ballard in the book series, so why was he being sidelined in the series? Michael Connelly acknowledged the Save Bosch: Legacy petition in an interview with The Irish Star in October, and called it ‘very flattering’, and this led to a huge spike in signatures.

As the story unfolded, it was clear that Amazon weren’t aligned with the Bosch: Legacy creative team when it came to their vision for the exciting expansion of the crime universe. In November, Amazon Freevee was shutdown, and this raised further questions about what was really going on behind the scenes. Prime Video had introduced adverts a long time ago, so it was clear they no longer needed their ad-supported offshoot, Freevee, which also happened to be the home of Bosch: Legacy since it first aired in 2022. Later that month, Michael Connelly’s contract clause came to light in an interview with CBS Saturday Morning, and this confirmed what was really going on in Amazon’s minds: Connelly said:
I want it in writing, in a contract that every shot in this show would be shot in Los Angeles, because Los Angeles is as big of a character as Harry Bosch is. And they agreed to that, which now they would never do. Now they are smart.
It looks like Amazon wanted to cut costs, and filming Bosch: Legacy in Los Angeles had become too expensive for them, especially with the Ballard series also being shot there. In Amazon’s warped mind, why would they pay for two shows when they could merge them both together? It was a serious lack of ambition on Amazon’s part, and the fans saw it for what it was, and they kept signing the petition in their droves every time an extra piece of the puzzle was revealed. Titus Welliver’s comments in an interview with Collider prior to Bosch: Legacy‘s cancelation was further proof of the breakdown between Amazon and the creative team:
We have to keep the universes together. Bosch and Bosch: Legacy is the mothership of all things, but the brand is the brand, so you can’t do Robin without having Batman.
Leaks were coming from inside the Bosch: Legacy production team in a Reddit thread, but it looks like they were forced to speak up anonymously in order to keep their jobs on Ballard. Amazon was looking more and more like a tyrannical organization as the months rolled on. A potential Amazon cover-up unearthed by the Save Bosch: Legacy petition led to another spike in signatures as the main cast’s silence spoke volumes about what was really going on. This ‘spirited’ fan-led campaign to Save Bosch: Legacy has ended up being so much more than that. It has revealed a darker side to Amazon and a serious problem with Hollywood’s infrastructure. People appear to be too scared to officially speak out against Amazon’s wrongdoings because of the precarious nature of the industry right now. Rocking the boat could bring the Hollywood industry to its knees, but not speaking up will inevitably have the same outcome.
