Dandadan’s penultimate episode might be the weirdest yet, and it will end before you’ve had the chance to absorb what just happened.

Who Is Jiji?
A Mysterious New Addition To Dandadan
Jiji’s sudden introduction into Dandadan’s plot has created a significant buzz, particularly because he’s revealed to have quite the backstory with Ayase Momo. To sum it up as portrayed in episode 10, as said by Ayase Seiko,
that guy is Momo’s childhood friend…and her first love.
During earlier episodes, a bit of Momo’s early life when she used to do the evil warding sign her grandma taught her was portrayed. During this time, Momo was laughed at by her peers, including her crush at the time which broke her heart. That crush was none other than Jiji. While most of Jiji’s past is still tied in mystery, his bond with Momo clearly tripped up Okarun and is sure to add a whole new layer of interpersonal trauma to the already supposed love triangle between Okarun, Momo, and Aira.
For fans who decided to explore Jiji’s teased backstory a bit deeper, it seems the character is here to meet Momo’s grandma. As Momo’s grandma is a spiritual specialist, it seems another journey into the supernatural is about to unfold, but this time with a much more complicated dynamic.
Jiji’s Potential Dynamic With Ken And Momo
Jiji And Ken: Friends Or Rivals?
Momo’s always been the one getting jealous of Aira, with Okarun having to explain the situation. However, with Jiji, that dynamic is sure to flip over, with Okarun potentially wondering if Momo would “love her first crush once more” or at least be tripped up by the possibility, particularly with Jiji’s teased playboy nature. From his looks, stature, and overall aura, Jiji seems like the kind of guy girls would instantly like, and considering Okarun’s the exact opposite, the possibilities of him beginning to feel inferior surely exist. To better garner Momo’s attention, Okarun might work double hard or simply beat himself up, leaving a whole box of possibilities open.
Moreover, with Jiji’s appearance in the theme song, it’s apparent that he’s here to stay and not a one-off character. However, his nostalgic element with Momo, something that Okarun doesn’t possess, could as well make them rivals rather than friends. This could lead to situations where they’ll try to one-up the other in their supernatural encounters rather than work as a team, which would be absolutely portrayed in a hilarious format consistent with Dandadan’s style but lead to more trouble overall.
Speculations And Expectations For Jiji’s Future In Dandadan
A Complex Relationship Dynamic Is Sure To Ensue
For fans who explored Jiji’s character a bit more after his teaser appearance, it seems the character sought out Grandma Seiko to help deal with a spiritual problem he’s been facing. Moreover, while solving the spiritual problem he’s facing is important, it’s equally important to note that he once laughed at Momo for her spirit-warding practices, so the relationship between them may not be as romantic as it was. Regardless, Ayase Momo has never been one to hold grudges. So she’ll undoubtedly do her best to help Jiji resolve his problems. Fans are only expectant of how the problem will be resolved.
Moreover, it’s important to remember that the new dynamic would extend to Aira, albeit to a lesser degree. Considering Momo and Okarun have a romantic relationship blossoming, it’s intriguing to wonder if Jiji would get with Aira if he doesn’t get with Momo. As seen with Aira, who, after her encounter with the supernatural, became able to see other supernatural phenomena that made her unwittingly join the crew. Jiji is sure to do the same (be involved in further supernatural activities). His presence would undoubtedly impact Momo and Okarun’s relationship to some degree, but the effects will also spill over to Aira, who often competes with Momo. Aira could either be irritated that Momo is seemingly getting attention from the boys, at least the ones within their crew, or she could actually be happy at the possibility of a relationship between Momo and Jiji as she would have Okarun all to herself. This scenario would undoubtedly lead to incessant bickering between the two girls in a hilarious but competitive way.
Jiji’s Role Joining The Supernatural Crew
Anticipation Around Jiji’s Growth And Abilities
Jiji’s role in the crew would undoubtedly be that of a supporter. However, whether or not he’ll also gain powers of his own has not yet been revealed. And if he does gain powers, what type of powers he’ll gain would surely interest fans. Currently, Okarun and Aira have powers they got from Turbo Granny and Acrobatic Silky, respectively. While their powers are innately different, they’re similar, so it’ll be very interesting if Jiji gains powers that are not tied to physical enhancements. All in all, it’ll be interesting to see how Jiji’s joining truly shakes things up rather than simply speculation. It’ll truly be an interesting addition.
