Marvel Rivals: Iron Man Hero Guide
Here’s how to soar around the battlefield in style and dominate your opponents as Iron Man in Marvel Rivals!
Fortunately, Star-Lord is on the more accessible side of the spectrum, making him one of the best Duelists for beginners to pick up and play, allowing them to dominate with his sleek and cool Element Guns. If you’re a fan of Guardians of the Galaxy, Star-Lord is your choice, no matter your skill level!
Updated December 20, 2024, by Seth Parmer: While nothing substantial has changed with Star-Lord from the beta, we still wanted to update this guide to include even more information on his Team-Up Ability, which allows him to stay in the fight, even after he falls. It’s one of the best in the game and should be considered when putting together your team!
Star-Lord Overview In Marvel Rivals
Star-Lord is one of the MCU’s most beloved characters, so seeing him be as accessible as he is in Marvel Rivals is fantastic. Lots of newcomers to the Hero Shooter genre can pick up and play him with very little resistance. And since he’s a Duelist, your main goal is to deal high damage to your opposition and rake in kills like they’re going out of style—things Star-Lord can do without breaking a sweat.
The one downside of being a Duelist, however, is that he has a low health pool, making him an easy target. He can die pretty quickly, but luckily, he has some excellent mobility options at his disposal that allow him to escape with his life, heal up, and then go back on the offensive!

Star-Lord Team-Ups
Guardian Revival may not be the most flashy or devastating Team-Up in Marvel Rivals, but it is one of the better ones, as it allows Adam Warlock to enable a Cocooned Revival for Star-Lord or Mantis if they fall in combat, allowing them to resurrect on the spot with their health fully restored, making it an excellent way to disrupt the opposition’s push.
If Star-Lord is your main Hero, we strongly urge you to try getting at least an Adam Warlock on your team, as this Team-Up will make you even more dominant in the arena. Something Star-Lord already thrives in. He’s quick, deals considerable damage, and can’t die? That’s a recipe for disaster if you’re the opposition!
Star-Lord Abilities
Ability |
Description |
---|---|
Element Guns LMB/R2/RT |
Star-Lord fires his dual-wielded Element Guns that contain a total of 40 shots. Once emptied, he must reload them. |
Stellar Shift RMB/Circle/B |
Swiftly evade in the direction you’re currently moving, simultaneously reloading in the process, making it an excellent ability to use after using up your ammo. |
Blaster Barrage E/R1/RB |
Star-Lord darts around the screen, unloading a volley of bullets from his Element Guns, dealing heavy damage to all enemies in the area. |
Rocket Propulsion LSHIFT/Triangle/Y |
Star-Lord dashes forward and soars in the air, allowing him to freely fly around the arena briefly. |
Galactic Legend Q/L3+R3 |
Star-Lord leaps high into the air and enters a free-flight state, allowing him to lock onto enemy targets, having his bullets automatically track to them. This action lasts for eight seconds. |
Leader’s Soul Passive Team-Up Ability |
If Adam Warlock is on your team, he can enhance the Rebirth powers of Star-Lord, providing them with a Cocooned Revival upon death, reviving them on the spot and with full health. |
Despite having one of the most condensed move lists in the game, Star-Lord packs a punch and can deal disgusting amounts of damage in short bursts, making him one of the best offerings in the Duelist role. His mobility grants him lots of freedom to get in and out while maintaining high pressure and damage output.
He is excellent for newcomers to the Hero Shooter genre and to Marvel Rivals and does an excellent job of teaching players the systems and mechanics of the game. While some players may initially struggle with accuracy, the Practice Range will be your friend here, allowing you to perfect your aim and hone your skills as Star-Lord!
Recommended Teams
The ease of use of Star-Lord makes him highly flexible, meaning he doesn’t need an organized or specific team composition to shine or be of use. However, we recommend having Adam Warlock on your team if you’re playing as Star-Lord, as the Cocooned Revival is a massive bonus that will keep Star-Lord locked and loaded even after he dies.
Other than that, you don’t need to overthink it when it comes to Star-Lord; he will perform well with pretty much any team composition, especially if you can land your shots and use your abilities strategically and to their full potential. If your team is doing their role, and you’re just being Star-Lord, you will dominate the match.
Aside from Adam Warlock, if you can also get Mantis on your team, you can create some real pressure and chaos for the enemy team, as you will be able to revive in tense situations with your full health, primed and ready to go in an attempt to shift the tides of battle!
How To Play As Star-Lord In Marvel Rivals
Since Star-Lord is a close-to-mid-range DPS character, you won’t have to worry too much about getting ganked until you need to dive in and use your other abilities. However, since he can just fly away via his Rocket Propulsion ability, he can also get out of sticky situations with ease, making him very hard to deal with as the opposition. He’s straightforward and deadly, which is always a fun combination!
Star-Lord Combos In Marvel Rivals
- Element Guns > Stellar Shift > Element Guns > Stellar Shift > Blaster Barrage > Rocket Propulsion
- Element Guns > Stellar Shift > Blaster Barrage > Element Guns > Stellar Shift > Element Guns > Rocket Propulsion
- Element Guns > Stellar Shift > Element Guns > Stellar Shift > Blaster Barrage > Galactic Legend > Rocket Propulsion
Kicking your combos off with Element Guns, draining the magazine, and using Stellar Shift to instantly reload them will be your go-to starter for Star-Lord, which can be followed up with another round before going into his devastating Blaster Battage. After landing that, swiftly use Rocket Propulsion to get out of sight and sound.
A more complex combo will have you start with the tried-and-true Element Guns into Stellar Shift but use Blaster Barrage immediately after. This allows you to use Element Guns, Stellar Shift, and Element Guns again straight after, then bounce with Rocket Propulsion after your weapon is drained.
This is Star-Lord’s general gameplay and outline, allowing him to get in, land shots, evade while simultaneously reloading, and then launch into some of his more devastating abilities to really keep the pressure and damage on his opposition. He can be suffocating and annoying to deal with, and this showcases why that’s the case!
When To Use Galactic Legend
Galactic Legend is Star-Lord’s Ultimate Ability in Marvel Rivals, letting him fly through the air freely while automatically locking onto his targets, having his bullets magnetize to them, allowing him to unleash lots of damage and kills in the process. It’s an excellent move and one of the best Duelist Ultimate Abilities in the game.
You can use this ability as part of a combo, preferably immediately after your Blaster Barrage. Your opponents will already be severely weakened, and the action’s automatic targeting will allow you to make quick work of them. The third combo above showcases just that, allowing you to put the nail in the coffin of anyone who escaped that attack.
Additionally, you can also use it as a way to initiate an encounter, but we advise against doing so, as they can just heal and mitigate the damage, leaving you highly vulnerable in the process. If you want to use it this way, communicate with your team first and set up a proper push and dive, or it will likely go to waste!
