Helldivers 2 And Killzone May Be Set In The Same Universe

The community has a love-hate relationship with Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead. The Omens of Tyranny update revealed at The Game Awards propelled the game to the high it reached during launch, but that high immediately fell when players saw the item prices of the new Killzone crossover.

Helldivers 2 Proves Easier Can Be Better

“No pain, no gain” isn’t always the best policy. Sometimes, making it easier on the players can increase playtime and activity.

Now, Arrowhead is back in the good books after listening to the feedback and giving away the second phase of the crossover for free as a show of good faith. However, in all this drama we missed something big. No, not the Illuminate going after the newly launched vehicles. Nobody seems to be questioning the fact that Helldivers and Killzone are in the same universe!

Could Super Earth And Helghan Have A Strategic Alliance?

Of course, you may think I’m being silly for overthinking a crossover. After all, a crossover doesn’t always have to make sense, it’s just a fun collaboration between two developers. However, the manner in which Arrowhead announced that the second phase of the Killzone crossover will be free for everyone is what makes me think Super Earth and Helhan exist in the same universe.

“The amount of ammo, Stratagems, and lives of heroes used to combat the Illuminate extremists have put the Q4 defense budget under unexpected strain. To address this issue, the Ministry of Defense has entered into a contract with reputable arms manufacturer Ståhl Arms,” said the announcement. All Helldivers have been granted access to six new items, including two weapons and one armor set, effective immediately.”

The wording of this announcement, especially the mention of Ståhl Arms is what makes us think that Super Earth and Helghan exist in the same universe. Ståhl Arms, as fans will know, is the weapons manufacturer Helghan weapons. But, in the events of Killzone, the two planets were at war, so this partnership makes things even more interesting.

How Did This Come To Be?

I have some theories. Could Helldivers 2 be set in the past? And, at some point, does Super Earth defeat its current enemies and decide to invade Helghan? The lack of an authoritarian regime on Earth in the Killzone series doesn’t support this argument, however.

Helldivers 2: A group of Helldivers celebrating their victory.

So, that must mean Helldivers 2 is set in the future. At some point after the victory over Helghan, Earth adopted an authoritarian approach to things. Helghan is currently a colony of Super Earth, with Ståhl Arms looking over it. So, it seems in fighting an authoritarian regime, Earth became what it was fighting against.

Of course, I’m trying to make sense of something that doesn’t need to make sense. All you need to worry about is the Illuminate that are attacking our vehicle factories. Move it Helldiver!
