New features for Genshin Impact Version 5.3 update
New Archon Quest and Weekly Boss: Engaging in Natlan’s Tribal Stories
The stage is set for the climactic battle in Natlan as Act V of the Archon Quest begins. In the last chapter, Natlan’s six heroes came together, and the sacred Ode of Resurrection bestowed its blessing upon all Natlanese fighters. Now, the Traveler stands on the brink of unlocking their Pyro power, ready to join the fray.
But as hope burns brightly, the Abyss counters with a dark force, the Abyssal Mimic Dragon, a fearsome Boss known as the “Lord of Eroded Primal Fire.” This showdown will test the strength and unity of Natlan’s characters like never before in the next installation of the story.
New Playable Characters and Re-Runs
Mavuika: 5-star Pyro Claymore user
Mavuika, also known as the Pyro Archon Haborym, was once Natlan’s greatest defender during the Abyss wars. Now, she’s ready to bring her fiery might to the battlefield! Her fighting style is super versatile, she can either wield her claymore in close combat or ride her Flamestrider, a blazing mount that’s as awesome as it sounds.
Her Elemental Skill has two modes: tap it, and she summons the Ring of Searing Radiance, which follows her or the current character and continuously attacks with Pyro damage. Hold the skill, and she hops onto her Flamestrider. On her mount, Mavuika can scale cliffs, zoom across land and water, glide through the air, and even smash into enemies in her path.
Fighting alongside her allies builds up Fighting Spirit, a unique resource she uses for her Elemental Burst. When unleashed, this Burst hits enemies with a massive AoE Pyro attack, and Mavuika enters a powered-up state. She becomes tougher to interrupt and gains an extra boost to her combat abilities.
As a bonus, she can reduce the party’s Nightsoul Transmission cooldown by 20%, which is super handy for team rotations. Mavuika’s kit seems insanely fun and versatile. The Flamestrider feature alone makes her feel like more than just a fighter, it’s like you’re riding into battle in style. Plus, the mobility she brings could make exploring way more enjoyable. The Fighting Spirit mechanic adds an interesting twist, rewarding players for staying in the fight and supporting their team.
Citlali: 5-star Cryo Catalyst user
In contrast to Mavuika’s blazing flames, “Granny Itztli,” otherwise known as Citlali from the Masters of the Night-Wind, brings a biting cold to the battlefield as a 5-star Cryo Catalyst user. A powerful Shaman revered by her clan, Citlali is always accompanied by two little companions, Itzpapa and Citlalin.
During exploration, they transform into cushions and pillows, allowing Citlali to comfortably float in mid-air. While in combat, Citlali can deploy Cryo shields and summon a powerful Cryo storm of AoE DMG with her little companions. While in her Nightsoul’s Blessing state, “Granny Itztli” lowers the Pyro and Hydro RES of opponents affected by Frozen or Melt reactions, even when Citlali is off-field.
She seems perfect for players who love strategy and crowd control while also wanting a character with a lot of charm. I can see her being a strong pick for both support and sub-DPS roles, especially in Freeze or Melt comps. Plus, her design with Itzpapa and Citlalin adds so much personality to her character.
Lan Yan: 4-star Anemo Catalyst user
A new Liyue character, Lan Yan, debuts as a 4-star Anemo Catalyst user in the second half of Version 5.3. One of her inherited Qimen Arts is the Swallow-Wisp Shield that can convert its Element into Hydro, Pyro, Cryo, or Electro to absorb corresponding Elemental DMG.
After the conversion, she can also leap into the air to attack, dealing the same type of Elemental DMG to her opponents. Lan Yan seems like a fun and dynamic character who brings utility, adaptability, and a fresh combat style to the table. She could easily become a go-to for players looking for a versatile addition to their roster.
Re-runs and Chronicled Wish
Both Mavuika and Citlali debut in the first half of Version 5.3’s Event Wishes, with reruns for Arlecchino and Clorinde arriving in the second half. In addition, more 5-star characters will return in another round of Chronicled Wish, including almost the entirety of Liyue’s 5-star characters.
Lantern Rite Rewards and Limited Events
Meanwhile, Genshin Impact brings us our yearly Lantern Rite in 2025 with new additional characters taking the spotlight. Players can share in the festive joy through various free rewards, including Primogems ×1,600, the new glider “Wings of Fate’s Course Intertwined“, Intertwined Fate ×10 through a daily login event, a free 4-star Liyue character by completing the Lantern Rite event, and a new outfit for Xiangling by accumulating Festive Fever in the event.
Lantern Rite will also come in with an array of mini-games and events. They can also play the block clearing mini-game, “Immortal Combat,” as well as a combat challenge with Stratagem buffs to accumulate fun and Festive Fever. Once Festive Fever reaches a certain level, players can claim Xiangling‘s new outfit “New Year’s Cheer” and more celebratory bonuses for free. Meanwhile, Hu Tao‘s new outfit “Cherries Snow-Laden” will be on sale in the Shop at a limited-time discount.
New Permanent features and QOL updates
Version 5.3 continues to offer new features for different in-game modes. The popular rhythm game will become a permanent gameplay mode. Additionally, Kazuha and Ganyu‘s Echo cosmetics will be added to Envisaged Echoes in the Imaginarium Theater lobby and can be obtained after completing the corresponding new challenges.
This version is also committed to further optimizing the character level-up process. The character interface now includes a button leading directly to the Training Guide. Artifacts, Weapons, and Character overviews in the Training Guide have been made clearer and easier to understand.
The Artifact Inventory Limit will also be increased to 2,100, affording players more space and flexibility in Artifact management. Additionally, Boss enemies will respawn in just 5 seconds after claiming rewards without the need to teleport away, ensuring a smoother, more efficient process for obtaining character level-up materials.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Version 5.3 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting updates yet. With the near conclusion of Natlan’s story, the debut of Mavuika, and the addition of new characters like Citlali and Lan Yan, there’s plenty to look forward to.
The re-runs of fan favorites like Arlecchino, Clorinde, and much of the Liyue 5-star lineup make this a great patch for both new and veteran players. Add in the new Lantern Rite event, tons of free rewards, fresh skins, and teasers for future characters, and it’s clear this update is packed with content to kick off the new year in style!
