If you thought the wait between NCAA Football 14 and this year’s EA Sports College Football 25 was long (10-plus years), then just wait until you find out that the last NCAA Basketball title was published in 2009. In other words, it’s been well over 14 years since NCAA Basketball 10 was released.

That said, things might change relatively soon.
According to information from Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw, both EA and Take Two (2K) have had internal conversations about reviving the long dormant college basketball video game franchise. Straw added, “there are groups within both companies pushing heavily for it.”
CFB 25 Was A Massive Success
Coming off the success that was College Football 25, it makes complete sense that either company would want to revive basketball. Either to get a share of the pie (2K and Take-Two) or extend its college dominance (EA).
As TheGamer reported previously, CFB 25 was a massive success, even before the game officially launched. In the leadup to its official release, 2.2 million people paid at minimum $100 for Early Access privileges. The game has since risen to become the all-time best-selling football game in history and the No. 2 sports game ever.
In other words, college sports are a major deal. Still, it may not be as seamless as it sounds.
That’s because there are 352 Division I basketball programs, with a grand total of 363 when including schools transitioning from Division II or III. That’s a lot of schools compared to the 134 FBS schools that College Football 25 included. For reference, NCAA college basketball is not divided into subdivisions like football.
Factor in the sheer number of schools, plus the ability to contract real player likenesses via NIL, and things start to get really doozy really quickly. Then again, money is the ultimate equalizer, and if there’s a chance a college basketball game could be half as successful as its football counterpart, then things will find a way. Ultimately, only time will tell if a College Basketball (Insert Year Here) game becomes a thing, though it’s at least a conversation.
