Summary
- XDefiant has had a long and wild development journey but it’s already coming to an end in 2025.
- As a final hurrah, a big new update has been released that includes pretty much everything that was being worked on.
- The biggest surprise of all is a map based on Rayman that has its own unique game mode called Lum Hunt.
Ubisoft has just released a huge update for XDefiant that includes several seasons’ worth of content, including a map and mode based on Rayman Legends.
Considering what a long journey XDefiant’s development has been, it’s wild to think that it actually launched earlier this year. While things started off very strong, it quickly lost momentum (and most of its playerbase) after just a few months, leading to Ubisoft confirming that it would be shutting down for good in 2025.

Ubisoft’s shooter deserved better, but was never going to get it.
Although you might think that would be the last we heard of XDefiant, that isn’t the case. Thanks to several developers surprisingly still being allowed to work on the game, a big new update for XDefiant just dropped that contains a ton of content, characters, and maps that was being worked on for future seasons, including a lot of love for Rayman of all characters.
XDefiant Had A Big Rayman Takeover Planned For Season 4
Earlier today, XDefiant’s executive producer, Mark Rubin, shared some details on the huge final content update for XDefiant, which seems to include pretty much everything that had been created for the game and its future seasons. Not only does this include characters based on Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry: Blood Dragon, but it also pays some respect to Rayman.
In the patch notes, Rubin said that if players “do anything at all”, they need to check out the map based on Rayman Origins and Legends, which was planned to release as part of an “epic” takeover in Season 4. The map, Enchanted Forest, even has its own game mode, Lum Hunt, which has players running around and collecting Lums to compete with one another.
Beyond capturing the visuals of Origins and Legends, the map includes a bunch of easter eggs and references to Rayman, including photos of the gang and the summoning circle where the vegetable thingamajig was born.
While I’m sure most XDefiant players are more interested in the new characters, the addition of a map based on Rayman is the biggest surprise of them all and something that fans have quickly taken to sharing. Over on Twitter, RaymanForSmash released footage of the map and called it out for managing to accurately recreate the game’s style in a realistic shooter.
