A member of the Black Myth: Wukong development team was reportedly ‘crying’ and ‘upset’ after Astro Bot won GOTY at The Game Awards 2024.
With Black Myth: Wukong more popular than ever in the wake of its wins at The Game Awards, merchandise maker Queen Studios opted to reveal a fantastic-looking sculpture of protagonist The Destined One. Unfortunately for all but the most well-off Black Myth: Wukong fans, its price will match its attention to detail. Pre-orders for the sculpture start with a minimum down payment of $1,750 USD, against a total of $4,930 USD. With shipping costs added, the final cost paid by a prospective buyer will likely go well over $5,000 USD. Queen Studios also unveiled a video trailer showing off the sculpture’s design and features.
Life-size Black Myth: Wukong Sculpture to Cost More than $5,000 USD
The Queen Studios bust of The Destined One is marketed as being “life-size” and stands nearly 40 inches tall (100 centimeters). It replicates most of The Destined One’s upper body, wearing the iconic Black Myth: Wukong Monkey King set and holding his mystical gourd. The pre-order period runs until December 30, 2024, and the statues themselves are expected to be delivered sometime in Q4 2025.
According to Queen Studios’ description, the bust exhibits “unparalleled artistry” and realism, designed to achieve a level of detail to match the game’s visuals. The Destined One’s furry mane is made with Golden Silk Wool to achieve a realistic texture and flow. The sculpture’s skin is made from Platinum Silicone and resin for its lifelike texture. The armor design is similarly detailed, with red ropes and visible lacing on many of the pieces, as well as intricate carving on almost every part of the outfit.
Though the price tag of Black Myth: Wukong‘s life-size Destined One bust is enough to give one pause, it’s hardly the only piece of fabulously expensive merchandise, nor is it the priciest item of its kind. In 2022, Square Enix unveiled a massive 1/6th-scale Masterline Statue of Final Fantasy 6 character Terra sitting atop some Magitek armor. The sculpture’s roughly $12,000 price was so outrageous that it even attracted criticism from Final Fantasy series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi at the time.
