Summary
- eashing Gojo’s full power in Shibuya would guarantee victory against curses, but at a high cost.
- Gojo’s strategic retreat would quicken the series’ resolution but hinder other characters’ growth.
- Gojo’s sealing in Jujutsu Kaisen acts as a narrative drive and propels the tale into darker territories.
Satoru Gojo is among the first few characters to make himself stand out in Jujutsu Kaisen, mainly because of his skills, and therefore, his leadership is of extreme importance when fighting against curses. But it wasn’t until the Shibuya Incident that the story changed majorly, and then it happened due to Gojo’s unexpected sealing. Without his guidance and strength, his allies became without the best support, forced to face epic battles alone, and changed the battle dynamics of the curses.
However, what if Gojo wasn’t sealed in Jujutsu Kaisen? If he was not there, how would the Shibuya Incident have been, and how would the story continue? If Gojo wasn’t imprisoned, we could imagine how much it would change the entire plot. Gojo’s continued involvement in the story could be devastating to the enemy forces and could alter the growth paths of other characters in very significant ways, both positively and negatively. So, let’s take a look at these possibilities and see what would have been.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Could Gojo Return In A Sequel?
JJK could make a return with a sequel. Gojo’s return is something all fans are wondering about.
Scenario 1: Unrestrained Power in Shibuya
Alternate Fate For Maki And Nanami
In this case, Gojo disregards the presence of civilians, unleashes his full power, and we see him go off during the Shibuya Incident. He would end all enemies, including the disaster curses, in one blow with his Infinite Void’s Domain’s Expansion, while sacrificing countless humans. This would guarantee victory against the curses, but the price for this victory would be much higher than what even he could bear.
The threats bringing those key characters to tragic deaths would have been eradicated early enough so that Kento Nanami would survive. The injuries that would drive her to become the formidable, heavenly restriction warrior fans now know would not have fared well with Maki Zen’in. In addition, Naobito Zen’in, the only clan survivor, would ensure Maki would still not rise, and the Zen’in clan’s oppressive system would likely unravel.
An Unhinged No Remorse Gojo Would Be Scary
In what would be a massive display of power, Gojo’s overpowering display would have major ramifications for the rest of the story. They would rely on Gojo, and Gojo would be the ultimate answer to every crisis as it already technically was and even stated in the series that they should, at this point, just send Gojo to every single problem and get it sorted out much faster. This dependency would prevent the other characters from growing, as they wouldn’t have the opportunity to motivate or to need to test their limits.
Narratively, if we got rid of major antagonists like Jogo, Mahito, and Hanami from the get-go, the story arc would be shorter and simpler. This would resolve the immediate threat to humanity, but without the central conflicts, the series would be devoid of emotional depth and character-focused moments. If Gojo and his allies aren’t presented with many challenges, it could be a boring and less engaging storyline.
Scenario 2: Gojo’s Strategic Retreat
0.2 Seconds Domain But Avoiding The Prison Realm
In this alternate plot, he follows the same path as in the regular plot. With his precise 0.2-second Domain Expansion, he traps the curses, and the disfigured humans are eliminated without harming the civilians trapped in the station. Seeing through such a calculated move, it eliminates the immediate threat and paves way for him to deal with the other disaster curses and pseudo-Geto. But not like the one the Prison Realm has sealed for him. After Geto arrives, it’s a quick calculation by Gojo that the object before him seems dangerous.
Getting unfazed by seeing Geto, he knows that it is an impostor and either tries to fight him or leave. At that point, Geto would probably try to run away too, as he knows he has no chance of beating Gojo. Gojo’s presence alone would have kept most of the adversaries’ bold moves at bay, possibly even preventing Sukuna from taking over Megumi. Without Sukuna’s possession of Megumi, Mahoraga wouldn’t have been summoned, meaning Gojo’s powers were unmatched. This likely ensures Gojo’s eventual victory over Sukuna and other curses, possibly bringing the series to a quicker resolution.
My Six Eyes Tell Me You’re Suguru Geto, But My Soul Knows Otherwise.
On the other hand, Gojo remaining unsealed would result in lesser personal growth on the part of other characters. For instance, Yuta, Maki, and Yuji would not need to fill in for Gojo’s absence and therefore would rise to the occasion and prove their worth. The sorcerer community may never be at the level of strength and cohesion that the post-Shibuya chaos brought upon them.
Whatever Is Meant To Happen, Is Inevitable
Gojo Was Meant To Be Sealed
In Jujutsu Kaisen, Gojo’s sealing acts as a narrative drive that pushes other characters to confront their own challenges, then grow their own and will not do otherwise. The absence of him puts stakes that feel impossible to overcome, propelling the tale into grimmer, darker territories. In either situation, with Gojo remaining unsealed, his immense power is a two-edged sword.
Conflict was something he could swiftly resolve, but his presence would always prevent others from growing stronger at the expense of their own self-improvement. The power that the balance of the series rests on isn’t just the strength of Gojo but also in us seeing how his absence changes the world around him. In the end, the Shibuya Incident is a lesson that, no matter how hard someone tries to change their fate, some events are inevitable.
