The Old Country in 2025

The Old Country in 2025

The announcement of Mafia: The Old Country at this year’s Gamescom was a massive reveal, marking the first new chapter since 2016. The Mafia franchise is a beloved series, and the official confirmation that a brand-new story is set to arrive next year was one of the high points of the massive gaming event.

Like its predecessor, Mafia 3, Mafia: The Old Country became official at Gamescom, but this year’s Game Awards brought even more insight to eager gamers. A longer trailer was revealed at this year’s Game Awards, revealing a release target of summer 2025. Before The Game Awards, it was at least known that Mafia: The Old Country was slated for sometime in the new year, but now that summer has been confirmed, it’s much easier to narrow down a potential release month. With half a year of waiting ahead, developer Hangar 13 will hopefully have even more in store for fans ahead of the game’s launch.

An Official Release Date Remains Unclear

Despite two trailers and a confirmed release target, one of the biggest questions about Mafia: The Old Country revolves around a specific date. While an announcement may still be a few months away, developer Hangar 13 can be expected to reveal a date sometime before the summer. Speculating on when these announcements are set to arrive can be tricky, but there are a few possible dates that fans may want to keep an eye on.

Events That Could Bring Further Mafia: The Old Country News

  • Future Games Show Spring Showcase: March 25
  • PAX East: May 8-11
  • Summer Game Fest: June

There isn’t any official word regarding whether Mafia: The Old Country will be present at these events or not, but if so, it could bring another trailer to light. Leading up to Mafia 3‘s release, there were several cinematic trailers that dove a little bit deeper into the story and setting with each new snippet. Spring could see the Future Games Show potentially showcasing an exclusive fresh look. Also, with the summer months running from June to September, PAX East and Summer Game Fest are two events that feel highly likely to feature the next Mafia chapter. A gameplay demo at PAX East could be a possibility, while Summer Game Fest could be a solid stage to reveal a third trailer or release date.

There will hopefully be a sneak peek of in-game gameplay footage as well, but there is no telling what Hangar 13 will present to audiences next. The small amount of footage that has been offered has showcased plenty of tense and action-packed moments, but there has yet to be actual gameplay revealed. Despite no footage of this, there are several confirmed features to be expected. The Mafia legacy has brought gamers plenty of gangster-fueled mechanics, and this chapter’s 20th century Sicily setting promises a fresh spin.

  • Early 20th century vehicles

More Insight Into a Unique Setting and Crime Family

While it’s possible that the game’s setting of early 1900s Sicily may not be expanded on before launch, Hangar 13 further emphasizing the importance of the location could be one of the most effective ways to ignite more excitement. It has been confirmed that players will take on the role of Enzo as he proves himself worthy of the Torrisi family, but further insight into this family and its characters will hopefully shed more light on Mafia: The Old Country’s story ahead of release.

These predictions are merely speculative, but based on Mafia‘s history, especially with Mafia 3‘s pre-launch marketing, at least one or two more sneak peeks feel inevitable. Only time will tell, but 2025 is finally the year where a fresh Mafia story gets to be told.
