Cronos: The New Dawn is Bloober Team’s upcoming sci-fi horror title. Pivoting from the style of many of its previous outings, which were generally first-person psychological games with an emphasis on narrative, Cronos: The New Dawn will instead be a more action-oriented third-person experience. The developer has stated that its next project is taking inspiration from a few other well-known games in the genre, most notably Dead Space, Alan Wake 2, and the modern Resident Evil remakes.
Beyond that, Cronos: The New Dawn will include time-travel as a major aspect, with players jumping between an apocalyptic Eastern Europe in the future and the distant past in search of ways to prevent a mysterious cataclysm. All of this suggests it will be an intriguing and engaging ride. Just prior to revealing Cronos, Bloober Team was credited with pulling off an impressive feat in delivering the Silent Hill 2 Remake to wide acclaim. And based on how it handled the marketing and leadup to SH2R‘s release, this could inform Bloober’s plans for Cronos: The New Dawn.

Cronos: The New Dawn Sounds More Like Dead Space By the Day
At first glance, Cronos: The New Dawn looks an awful lot like Dead Space, and those comparisons probably won’t slow down any time soon.
Why Silent Hill 2 Gives Bloober Team Momentum with Cronos: The New Dawn
Though Bloober Team had its share of detractors, and there was some initial wariness attached to it being the studio that would be handling the Silent Hill 2 Remake, it quelled many of these concerns upon its release. Fans and critics both praised the remake for its faithfulness to the original along with the changes and modern designs it contained. This sets up Cronos: The New Dawn to continue Bloober’s streak by producing another satisfying and compelling horror title.
However, while the above bodes well for it, Bloober needs to be careful not to rely too much on Silent Hill 2 Remake‘s popularity in relation to Cronos: The New Dawn. Given that it’s a new IP rather than a remake of a beloved classic, it will need to stand on its own merits as well. Still, it is an exciting prospect, and Bloober could have another hit on its hands if it is able to ride the wave and stick the landing again.
Bloober Team’s Previous Release Pattern
Looking at the cycle of news and updates that Bloober followed for the Silent Hill 2 Remake over the course of 2024:
- Combat trailer – January (at the PlayStation State of Play)
- Release date trailer – May (revealing an October 8 release)
- Story trailer – August
- Immersion trailer – September
While it’s not set in stone that it will follow this exact pattern again for Cronos: The New Dawn, nevertheless, the schedule could contain some hints as to what, and when, fans might expect to see more about Cronos in 2025.
Predicting Cronos: The New Dawn’s Potential Release Window
Cronos: The New Dawn was announced at the Xbox Partner Preview on October 17, 2024, barely a week on from the launch of Silent Hill 2 Remake. Not long after that, leaks about Cronos: The New Dawn surfaced that seemed to fill out a few more details, although it should be kept in mind that these have not been officially confirmed or commented on. Based on the past schedule and what is currently known, though, some possibilities emerge for when players might be able to dive into it.
October 2025 Would Be a Natural Fit for Cronos: The New Dawn’s Release
Horror games often launch in October to capture the Halloween spirit. Given the timing of its reveal, and especially if Bloober seeks to coincide its release with Silent Hill 2 Remake‘s, the potential exists for Cronos: The New Dawn to drop in or around the same timeframe. However, this remains only speculation at the moment, and a concrete date has not been confirmed.
Of course, the above isn’t always the case, as, for example, the
Dead Space
and
Resident Evil 4
remakes released in January and March respectively, far removed from the normal spooky season.
Regarding other information that might come next, some may recall that Silent Hill 2 Remake‘s initial trailer was contentious for focusing on combat and gameplay over the memorable setting and story. Cronos seems to be in the opposite boat, as the former aspects have only been briefly shown so far, with the trailer highlighting more of the world and unsettling atmosphere. It may be prudent then for Bloober to showcase Cronos: The New Dawn‘s combat and related mechanics next. This would serve to further clarify how it aims to incorporate its stated influences and original ideas while ensuring it remains in the spotlight ahead of future announcements.
