The 15 Best PS Plus Games of 2024

The 15 Best PS Plus Games of 2024

PS Plus has always had simple messaging, going all the way back before Sony ever introduced the tiers: it is a premium service, filled with premium games, on a premium console. This was true before the split into PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium, and it’s almost certainly after. PS Plus’ tiered subscription ensures everyone gets a little bang for their buck with Essential, has access to a fun-filled catalog with PS Plus Extra, and can dip their toes into nostalgia with PS Plus Premium.

Year after year, PS Plus proves its value—and 2024 has been no different. Whether it was PS Plus Essential, Extra, or Premium, subscribers were treated to a flurry of awesome games. Some ultimately stand as the best of the best, and the best PS Plus offered represents some of the best games in the industry (listed in chronological order by when they were added to PS Plus this year).

A Plague Tale: Requiem (PS Plus Essential – January 2024)

Check Out Game Rant’s A Plague Tale: Requiem Review

When it comes to the best video game stories, it’s hard not to think about A Plague Tale: Innocence and Requiem. The story that has unfolded across the two games is simply second to none, and kicking off the new year with such an impactful story on PS Plus is nothing short of awesome. Many believe that January sets the tone for the entire year, and if nothing else, playing great games on PS Plus is an awesome start to any year. Hopefully, PS Plus will repeat it with its January 2025 games.

Check Out Game Rant’s Resident Evil 2 Review

Capcom has developed a reputation for delivering excellent remakes that are just as good, if not better, than their originals. That’s a high bar to climb, but it’s exactly what it accomplished with its 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2. PS Plus subscribers kicked off 2024 with access to great games, and Resident Evil 2 is emblematic of everything PS Plus can offer.

Check Out Game Rant’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Review

One year prior to Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ release, fans could dive into AC Valhalla with PS Plus. It’s filled to the brim with content and features a massive open world, with a fun main story with major implications for the future. AC Valhalla on PS Plus carries the momentum of January forward, really ensuring that the year started on the right foot.

Sifu (PS Plus Essential – March 2024)

Check Out Game Rant’s Sifu Review

Sloclap’s Sifu is a beautiful game, hands down, with its art style bringing the best out of its martial arts-oriented combat. Sifu’s aging mechanic is one of the best roguelike mechanics on the market, its combat and gameplay are tons of fun, and its story is filled with nuance and character. Sifu is easily one of the best games of 2022, and PS Plus ensures that no one has an excuse not to play it as of 2024.

Check Out Game Rant’s Dave the Diver Review

Dave the Diver’s PS4/PS5 release was a day one release for PS Plus Extra, joining the catalog the same day the game itself was released. Dave the Diver quickly made a name for itself, and its action-adventure/management gameplay loop certainly played its role in that. Getting it on PS Plus day one just helps cement its legacy and bolster the service. After all, Dave the Diver became the third most-played PS Plus Extra game of all time, coming in behind Stray and GTA 5 at the time.

Check Out Animal Well on OpenCritic

Animal Well is an incredible platforming game, one filled with mysteries, puzzles, and the like. It’s all packaged into something small and simple at first glance, but it’s actually as deep as any well or game could be. Its abilities are fun, the environmental storytelling gives the player direction, and the puzzle and platforming are innovative. Taken all together, Animal Well is one of those games that anyone should play, and PS Plus helps give that opportunity to everyone.

Check Out Game Rant’s Red Dead Redemption 2 Review

Red Dead Redemption 2 became a classic the second Rockstar released it years ago. To this day, Red Dead 2 is still worth its original, full asking price, so getting it as part of a service at any time is a steal. PS Plus Extra and Red Dead 2 are a perfect combo, with the former ensuring more experience such an excellent game and the latter ensuring that there’s no questioning PS Plus Extra’s value. Red Dead 2 alone carries, and it wasn’t even the only PS Plus Extra game added in May.

Tunic (PS Plus Essential – May 2024)

Check Out Game Rant’s Tunic Review

Sometimes the best games are the simplest—or those that appear simple. On the surface, Tunic seems like a simple Zelda-like action-adventure game, but underneath, it is filled with unforgiving combat and complex puzzles. Its simplicity invites, but its complexity keeps. Tunic is an excellent indie game and, just in general, an excellent game hands down. Having it on PS Plus ensures everybody wins.

Check Out Game Rant’s Witcher 3 Review

The Witcher 3 is one of those games that speaks for itself. Anywhere it appears, it’s a draw—even considering the pedigree of PS Plus, The Witcher 3 is a draw. The story of Geralt and Ciri is one of the most celebrated games in the industry, and getting access to it through PS Plus is great for those who have never played, those who have only watched the Netflix series, or those who just want to revisit.

Dead Space (PS Plus Essential – October 2024)

Check Out Game Rant’s Dead Space Review

If any horror remake could give Capcom a run for its money, EA Motive’s Dead Space is it. The horror of the original is fully retained, yet the game is filled with tons of improvements. And having it on PS Plus means even more fans get to experience the horror of Dead Space, making it a win-win for everyone. It certainly helps that it was added to PS Plus Essential in October.

WWE 2K24 (PS Plus Essential – October 2024)

Check Out Game Rant’s WWE 2K24 Review

Looking back, WWE 2K20 might be the best thing to ever happen to the franchise. Its disastrous launch led to serious reevaluations, which led to the fantastic launch of WWE 2K22. It has only gotten better since then, with WWE 2K23 and WWE 2K24 hitting higher benchmarks, and this has built a lot of anticipation for the in-development WWE 2K25. Of course, enjoying WWE 2K24 as part of a PS Plus subscription is even better because it’s the offspring of a fantastic game and a fantastic subscription.

Grand Theft Auto 5 (PS Plus Extra – November 2024)

Check Out Game Rant’s Grand Theft Auto 5 Review

Grand Theft Auto 5 is the most profitable entertainment product of all time, still to this day often appearing in sales charts. It’s hard to imagine anyone who hasn’t played it, but for those who want to revisit or check it out for the first time, it’s always worth watching where it may pop up. It has graced both PS Plus and Xbox Game Pass in the past, and it’s return to PS Plus as anticipation for GTA 6 simmers is a sure way to keep all eyes on Rockstar Games (not that it’s necessary).

It Takes Two (PS Plus Essential – December 2024)

Check Out Game Rant’s It Takes Two Review

Josef Fares revealed Hazelight’s upcoming game Split Fiction at The Game Awards 2024, which builds on the studio’s previous release, It Takes Two. This co-op game previously took home a GOTY award from The Game Awards, and it’s part of the reason why anticipation behind Split Fiction is so high (that and how the game looks, of course). There’s no better way to prepare for Split Fiction than playing It Takes Two, and PS Plus makes doing so as easy as pie.

Jak And Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (PS Plus Premium – December 2024)

Check Out Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy on Metacritic

When it comes to nostalgia, it’s hard to beat Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. It spawned an entire franchise where both Jak and Daxter grew as heroes, and its evolution from a simple platformer to a complex platformer with unique guns and abilities stands out in the history of the genre. Whether checking out the classic for the first time or the 100th, PS Plus ends the year strong with this addition.

Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves (PS Plus Premium – December 2024)

Check Out Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves on Metacritic

Hitting the same high nostalgic benchmarks as Jak and Daxter is Sly 3. Both games reflect a golden age of PlayStation games, with Sly 3 being the stealth platformer compared to Jak’s shooting platformer. If nothing else, PS Plus is also reminding fans of the classic mascots of the PlayStation brand. Between every addition to PS Plus in December 2024, it’s very clear the service is ending the year with a bang.
