After beginning production nearly a full year ago back in early January, our final trip to Hawkins, Indiana is finally almost ready to begin. According to reports, filming on the fifth and final season of Stranger Things has concluded, just in time for us to kick off another year of speculation as we agonize about when we’ll finally get to watch it.
Once photos of an alleged Stranger Things Season 5 wrap party made their way onto social media last Sunday, it was all but confirmed that the next and final chapter in what’s arguably Netflix’s most important series is almost ready for the world. Actress Amybeth McNulty, who plays Vickie, also sent an Instagram post out on Monday revealing that she’d wrapped all of her filming for the final season. Last month, Netflix teased the new season by revealing that it would be coming in 2025, and giving us episode titles that have unsurprisingly sprouted fan theories.
While we haven’t had many formal announcements or an official trailer, Stranger Things’ final season hasn’t been immune to prying eyes sneaking on set. We’ve seen an older-looking Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler, and David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper, outside of a movie theater showing Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. That little tidbit complicates what we know about the fifth season because the teaser trailer’s caption stated, “In the fall of 1987, one last adventure begins,” but Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade didn’t come out until May 1989. This all but confirms that while the season may begin in 1987, it won’t remain there for its entirety.
Whenever the final season releases, Netflix will be saying goodbye to a ratings behemoth. The fourth season became only the second Netflix series to attract over one billion hours of viewership en route to the series being the most streamed TV show of 2022. If the anticipation for the final season is any indication, all of those records will be smashed when we finally say goodbye to the kids of Hawkins High.
