Winning Clint’s friendship is worth the player’s time, especially early on in the game. Read on to learn how to win him over via gifts, quests, and more — as well as what friendship with Clint means for the player. His tough exterior hides a heart of gold.

Stardew Valley: Abigail Guide
Stardew Valley’s Abigail is one of the villagers who has an adventurous yet chill personality –here’s everything players need to know about her.
Updated December 18, 2024, by Demaris Oxman: Stardew Valley‘s 1.6 update added dozens of new items to the game, adding to or changing likes and dislikes for many residents of Pelican Town. One of those residents is Clint, the local blacksmith, who has added a handy book to his list of liked gifts. Here’s an updated guide with everything you need to know about befriending Clint in Stardew Valley.
Gift Guide
As a blacksmith, Clint loves to receive valuable crafting materials, as well as interesting crystals and curios that players can find in the mines. To have a chat and drop off a present, look for him in his shop just south of JojaMart. After the community center has been restored, players can find him there on Fridays. In the evenings, he’s often at the Saloon pining over Emily.
Items gifted on
Clint’s birthday, Winter 26,
will have
8x the usual effect.
Loved Gifts
These items are among Clint’s favorite things. Upon presenting him with one of these, the player will gain 80 friendship points with Clint.
Liked Gifts
While not as significant as Loved gifts, the following will still provide a decent boost in friendship, at 45 points each.
Additionally, coal, gold ore, iridium ore, and refined quartz are Neutral gifts for Clint (providing 20 friendship points).

When summer rolls around in Stardew Valley, farmers should make sure to do certain things to make the most of the season.
Disliked & Hated Gifts
Any gift at a level lower than Neutral will result in the player losing friendship points with the person they’re giving the gift to. The penalty for Disliked gifts isn’t as strong as Hated ones, but it’s still never a good idea to give Clint any of these items.
Other Ways To Increase Friendship
Quests
Like other villagers, Clint may post on the Help Wanted notice board outside Pierre’s. He may ask for a certain number of monsters to be slain, resources to be gathered, or a random item brought to him. Any of these objectives will result in +150 friendship.
On Winter 6, Clint sends the player a letter asking them to bring Emily an amethyst as a gift from him. Note, however, that Emily misunderstands the player’s meaning — friendship will increase with her, rather than with the blacksmith himself. Clint sends the player another letter on Winter 17, asking for an Iron Bar. Completing this goal will result in 1 friendship heart.

Stardew Valley: 14 Rarest Events Most Players Have Never Witnessed
These moments and encounters are so rare in Stardew Valley that even the most hardcore fans of the game may have never seen them.
Heart Events
Only one of Clint’s heart events has the potential to affect the player’s friendship with him. At three hearts or more, visit the Stardrop Saloon on a Monday between 7-11pm. Clint is feeling down over his bad luck with women and asks the player for advice. The player has four options:
- “Just act natural…be yourself.” This choice neither increases or decreases friendship.
- “Act crazy, to keep people guessing.” +25 friendship points.
- “Impress women with your strength and charm.” +25 friendship points.
- “Treat women the same as men.” This is the best option, with +50 friendship points.
Movie Theater
Once the Missing Bundle is complete and the movie theater is available, players can take a trip to the movies with Clint by giving him a ticket. Clint likes all movies except The Zuzu City Express. For concessions, his favorites are Fries and Stardrop Sorbet.
Friendship Perks
As with several other Pelican Town villagers, Clint will send the player some of his own recipes once they reach a certain level of friendship with him.
- Algae Soup: Sent at three hearts. This dish provides the player with minor energy and health restoration, using cheap ingredients.
- Bean Hotpot: Sent at seven hearts. In addition to providing decent energy and health, it also increases the player’s max energy and provides a magnetism buff.
With any level of friendship higher than 0, Clint has a chance to send the player a letter including either a copper bar, iron bar, or gold bar. The chance increases the higher the player’s friendship. Early in the game, these crafting materials are incredibly valuable, and they are worth building a connection with Clint.
