Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii Will Launch With An English Dub

Summary

  • Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will launch with an English dub, Sega has confirmed.
  • This is kind of surprising considering Like A Dragon Gaiden didn’t launch with one, but will be good news for those that don’t like playing the games in Japanese.

Like A Dragon has gotten so popular that it’s pretty essential for the games to have English dubs these days. While many of the old guard will still play in Japanese (myself included), having a game in a foreign language with subtitles can be a barrier to many. That’s why pretty much every game since Yakuza: Like A Dragon has had an English dub, and the upcoming Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is no exception.

Earlier today, Like a Dragon developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios announced via its official Twitter account that Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii will launch on February 21 with an English dub, just like the mainline titles. It was questionable whether it would launch with one, given that Like A Dragon Gaiden had an English dub patched in after launch, but that’s not the case with this one.

Alongside this announcement, Ryu Ga Gotoku also shared the actors who are playing each character, with Matthew Mercer reprising his role as Majima after Infinite Wealth. Raymond Law will be played by Samoa Joe, which isn’t too surprising since the character is modeled after him, while Noah and Jason Rich will be played by Maya Tuttle and Jeremy Brandt.

Like A Dragon’s Take On Pirates Is Wonderfully Old-Fashioned

Modern fictitious depictions of piracy isn’t as fun nor fantastical as it used to be. Thankfully, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios will remind us how great it was.

It’s also revealed that Masaru Fujita, Taiga Saejima, and Queen Michele will be played by Brent Mukai, Jamie Kirkland, and Debra Wilson respectively. It’s a pretty solid lineup of voice actors, and while the English dub of Like A Dragon games may seem criminal to some, at least there’s some top-notch talent for those that prefer it.

Now all we have to do is wait for the game to get here. We’ve seen plenty of it so far, including a bunch of ship gameplay and customization, so I’m pretty sure every Like A Dragon fan out there is on board (pun absolutely intended). We just need to hope that it doesn’t get buried by the sheer number of other releases happening in February.
