There’s still so much the gaming world doesn’t know about the Nintendo Switch 2. Aside from the confirmation that it’ll be backwards compatible and it’ll run Nintendo Switch Online, very few details have been officially announced for the Nintendo Switch successor, and that’s led to a lot of speculation and discussion among fans about what they want to see from the upcoming console.
Certain franchises are simply expected to appear on the Nintendo Switch 2 in or around its launch window, such as Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Pokemon. But a Pokemon game can take many different forms, and it might be a good idea for Nintendo to simply port one of the franchise’s most recent mobile outings to the next Switch console at its launch.

A New Pokemon Mobile Game Should Come to Nintendo Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch Was a Haven for Free-to-Play Mobile Games
While many free-to-play games can gain popularity on any platform, the Nintendo Switch quickly became a haven for the genre. Generally speaking, the Nintendo Switch was intended to be a family-friendly console, just like every Nintendo console before it. As such, many younger gamers would receive the Switch as a gift.
With no disposable income readily available to them, many of these younger gamers turned to the bevy of free-to-play games on the Nintendo Switch. This quickly led to games like Fortnite, Warframe, Rocket League, and Brawlhalla becoming fairly popular titles on the console.
The Nintendo Switch has also seen more than its fair share of mobile games get ported over the last seven years. The console’s handheld nature feels like a perfect fit for many of these mobile ports, allowing players to log in, play a few rounds, and log back out with ease. Quite a few Pokemon mobile games have found success on the Nintendo Switch, such as Pokemon Unite, Pokemon Cafe Mix, and Pokemon Quest.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Could Do Very Well on Nintendo Switch 2
The latest mobile Pokemon sensation, Pokemon TCG Pocket condenses the beloved trading card game into an extremely accessible, fairly addictive mobile title. For those unaware, Pokemon TCG Pocket allows players to open two free booster packs a day, which grants them cards that they can use in AI and online PvP battles.
As of October 30, Pokemon TCG Pocket had amassed 60 million players, and that kind of popularity should earn it a spot on the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch line-up. While developers Creatures Inc. and DeNA would have to tweak the game’s UI and probably add a new control scheme, Pokemon TCG Pocket could be a major hit on Nintendo’s next console.
Much like the Pokemon mobile ports that have come to Switch before, Pokemon TCG Pocket would allow Switch 2 players to log in, open a few packs, play a few rounds, get a big hit of nostalgia, and log out, at any time and anywhere. This daily loop could hit especially hard if players were able to carry their profile and progress between console and mobile, allowing players to switch platforms on the fly.
This would also mean that the Nintendo Switch 2 would have a Pokemon game on day-one, regardless of any unannounced project that could end up on the console.
