Intergalactic Already Shares a Few Fun Similarities With The Last of Us

During The Game Awards 2024, the famed PlayStation studio Naughty Dog gave players their first look at Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, a sci-fi action game in development exclusively for the PS5. Helmed by creative director Neil Druckmann, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is the first new intellectual property from the Last of Us and Uncharted developer in over 10 years. The game follows a seasoned bounty hunter named Jordan A. Mun, who gets trapped on an alien planet after a gig goes awry and must find a way to escape. It takes place in an alternate universe thousands of years into the future, and is heavily inspired by 80s sci-fi movies, like Akira.

Even though Naughty Dog hasn’t revealed much about the gameplay in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, its reveal trailer suggests that melee combat will be a primary aspect of the game. Compared to the company’s previous works, many of which are mainly third-person shooters, this seems to be a refreshing change of pace. Furthermore, Neil Druckmann has confirmed that Intergalactic will be structured more like a TV show than any of Naughty Dog’s other titles. Although the game seems to be a big departure from what the PlayStation subsidiary is typically known for, it does, at the very least, share a few neat similarities with The Last of Us.

Neil Druckmann revealed that
Intergalactic
would be structured more like a TV show back in 2022, two years before the game was even announced.

Some of the Voice Actors in Intergalactic Are Involved With The Last of Us

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Has a Star-Studded Cast

Like many blockbuster AAA games these days, Intergalactic has a star-studded cast. Tony Dalton, best known for his role as Lalo Salamanca in the Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul, is starring in the upcoming Naughty Dog title and can briefly be seen in the reveal trailer for the game. The same can be said for the stand-up comedian Kumail Nanjiani, who appears to be a member of a crime syndicate in Intergalactic. Even Troy Baker, the voice actor behind The Last of Us‘s Joel, has an undisclosed role in Naughty Dog’s upcoming game. Perhaps the most interesting bit of information regarding Intergalactic’s casting, though, pertains to the game’s protagonist, Jordan A. Mun.

Intergalactic’s Protagonist is Going to Play a Character in The Last of Us Season 2

In Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Jordan will be played by American actress Tati Gabrielle, who’s best known for her roles on television series like The 100 , You, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Even though Gabrielle typically doesn’t do voice acting roles for video games, she has collaborated with Naughty Dog on multiple occasions. Not only did she portray the antagonist Jo Braddock in the 2022 Uncharted movie, she also played the role of Nora Harris in the soon-to-be-released second season of The Last of Us on HBO.

Nora Harris, for those who don’t know, is a character who was first introduced in The Last of Us Part 2. She is a member of one of the main antagonistic forces in the game, the Washington Liberation Front. Though she is an enemy from the perspective of TLOU 2‘s main protagonist, Ellie, she is friends with the playable character Abby Anderson. It’s unclear what the TV show version of Nora Harris’s character is going to be like, but they’ll presumably be pretty similar, considering how faithful the series is to the game’s plot.

One of the Characters in Intergalactic is Portrayed by a Co-Writer for The Last of Us Part 2

Interestingly, one other actor who has a potentially big role in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is Halley Gross, the woman who portrays the eyepatch-wearing character in the game’s reveal trailer. Gross is both a screenwriter and an actress. She’s written for several popular shows, including Banshee, Westworld, and The Last of Us (HBO), and has even worked at Naughty Dog as a co-writer for The Last of Us Part 2. On top of that, Gross has played a few minor roles in Law & Order and the aforementioned TLOU Part 2. Both her and Gabrielle having lead roles in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet while also being heavily involved with The Last of Us is a neat coincidence that Naughty Dog fans may appreciate.
