Marvel Rivals has many Heroes to choose from, ranging from more up-close and personal fighters to ones who choose to engage from a safe distance with magic and guns and pretty much anything and everything in between. Magik is a melee-based fighter with a shocking amount of range and complex abilities that make her shine bright on the battlefield.

Here’s how to dominate the battlefield as Scarlet Witch in Marvel Rivals!
Utilizing everything at Magik’s disposal can be a bit complex, but once you get her kit down, she is easily one of the most fun and engaging Heroes in the game. Overall, Magik is one of the best Duelists in the game but lacks the ease of use that makes her a solid choice for newcomers to the game or the Hero Shooter genre.
Updated December 19, 2024, by Seth Parmer: Now that Marvel Rivals is officially out, Magik has received some substantial changes, especially when it comes to her Team-Up Ability. Not only did the addition of Psylocke add another teammate to utilize this action with, but it has been completely overhauled and is now one of the best in the game!
Magik Overview In Marvel Rivals
Magik is a beast of a Duelist in Marvel Rivals. Her staggeringly deep, rewarding, and exhilarating kit allows her to move through the arena with ease while effortlessly cutting her opposition down. The downside, however, is that you must put in some time and effort to get the most out of her.
And to make matters worse, since she’s a Duelist, she doesn’t have much health to work with, making her complex kit even more stressful to use, as one wrong move can spell your death. But her potential to dish out ungodly amounts of damage and her unique and swift movement options make up for that in spades.

Magik Team-Ups
Now that Marvel Rivals is officially released and Psylocke has entered the fray, Magik’s Team-Up action has seen quite a substantial overhaul, moving it from one of the worst to arguably one of the best in the game. If Black Panther or Psylocke is on the same team as Magik, they can now use Dimensional Shortcut, allowing them to use Limbo Portals to briefly rewind time.
Rewinding time only works on themselves, but it will reposition them to where they were moments prior while also replenishing any health they lost during the process. While it can take a bit to get used to, it is an excellent way to dive in, deal damage, and quickly get out, making it tremendously strong when used properly!
Magik Abilities
Ability |
Description |
---|---|
Soulsword LMB/R2/RT |
Magik performs a series of devastating slashes with her Soulsword, granting her bonus health on contact. |
Magik Slash RMB/L2/LT |
Magik charges energy into her Soulsword, launching a fast-moving projectile straight ahead that deals considerable damage on contact, granting her slight bonus health as well. |
Umbral Incursion E/R1/RB |
Dash forward with tremendous speed, delivering a rising attack with the Soulsword at the end of the dash, launching your target upward, and gaining bonus health on contact. |
Stepping Discs LSHIFT/L1/LB |
Magik summons a Stepping Disc, which causes her to teleport a short distance in the direction she’s facing. This grants her access to Eldritch Whirl and Demon’s Rage. She can hold two stacks of Stepping Discs at a time. |
Eldritch Whirl LMB/R2/RT |
After using Stepping Discs, Magik can perform a far-reaching slash with her Soulsword that covers a wide area of effect in front of her, dealing considerable damage and granting her bonus health on contact. |
Demon’s Rage RMB/L2/LT |
After using Stepping Discs, Magik can summon a Limbo Demon to ambush her target. The demon deals considerable damage and grants her bonus health with each hit. |
Darkchild Q/L3+R3 |
Magik transforms into Darkchild, substantially buffing all her actions for 12 seconds. This enables her to deal much more damage and receive much more bonus health on contact. |
Limbo’s Might Passive |
Has Magik’s attacks convert her inflicted damage into bonus health, allowing her to heal while attacking. |
Disc Master Team-Up Ability |
If Black Panther or Psylocke is on Magik’s team, they can create Limbo Discs to use as portals, allowing them to rewind time to a few seconds prior, repositioning them in the arena and replacing any health lost within that duration. |
The many abilities outlined above make Magik a bit more challenging to pick up and play than, say, a Scarlet Witch or The Punisher. While her lifesteal-type gameplay goes a long way to help mitigate her minuscule health pool, you still need to be smart and strategic with how you kick off your encounters.
She has the potential to be one of the best Duelists in the game, but she must be played near perfect to achieve those results. If you’re a newcomer to the game or genre, we advise taking to the Practice Range first to learn the ins and outs of her kit before diving into online matches!
Recommended Teams
For team composition, Magik can work well with just about any team, so long as you play her efficiently. We strongly recommend pairing her with Luna Snow. Her ability to gradually restore HP meshes perfectly with Magik’s Limbo’s Might Passive, which allows her to gain bonus health with each successful hit. So long as you have Vanguards to help mitigate incoming damage and play to your strengths, you will be very hard to kill with this duo!
With the newly reworked Team-Up ability, we strongly recommend having at least Black Panther or Psylocke on your team, as being able to rewind time and be a thorn in your opponent’s side is a massive advantage. Again, this was easily one of the worst Team-Ups in the beta and wasn’t much of a difference-maker.
But now, you should absolutely prioritize it when forming your team, as it can be a game changer if used properly and effectively. Being able to dive in, deal damage, and essentially teleport out while recovering your health is immensely strong and makes Black Panther or Psylocke a must-have on your team!
How To Play As Magik In Marvel Rivals
As we’ve extensively covered above, Magik isn’t necessarily what we’d call a straightforward character to play, but that’s also what makes her so strong in the right hands. She thrives on using her Stepping Discs to get in close to her opponents, then using her unique Soulblade abilities to land devastating hits and give herself bonus health.
Magik Combos In Marvel Rivals
- Stepping Discs > Eldritch Whirl > Umbral Incursion > Soulsword > Stepping Discs
- Stepping Discs > Demon’s Rage > Stepping Discs > Eldritch Whirl > Umbral Incursion > Soulsword
- Magik Slash > Stepping Discs > Eldritch Whirl > Umbral Incursion > Soulsword > Stepping Disc
- Darkchild > Magik Slash > Stepping Discs > Eldritch Whirl > Umbral Incursion > Soulsword > Stepping Disc > Demon’s Rage
Like we mentioned earlier, Stepping Discs will almost always be the default combo starter for Magik, though we recommend utilizing her ranged Magik Slash attack to get a cheeky first hit before diving into the fray with her teleport. Once you get up close and personal, executing her unique actions is necessary if you want to survive.
At the end of a combo, you should use your second stack of Stepping Discs to flee from the scene unless you are absolutely sure you won’t die. If that’s the case, you can cast Stepping Discs again and use Eldritch Whirl or Demon’s Rage to continue your onslaught.
When it comes down to it, her ability to provide herself bonus health is massive and can go a long way if you’re efficient with her toolkit. If you have additional healing coming in and are just tearing it up, do not be afraid to continue your oppressive offense, especially if your Ultimate Attack is ready!
When To Use Darkchild
Darkchild is Magik’s Ultimate Attack in Marvel Rivals, having her transform into a demon, drastically boosting her attacks. While she will still play the same for the most part, the amount of damage she dishes out in the form is astronomically high, and she will also receive substantially more bonus health when landing attacks.
We recommend entering Darkchild before diving into the action. Activating it during an encounter can be risky, as her small health pool can come back to bite you, causing you to die before you can properly deal enough damage to gain bonus health.
Again, this form is tremendously potent and can drastically change the tides of battle, so ensure you and your team are ready to push and let it rip. The damage output during Darkchild is downright disgusting, and the bonus health will undoubtedly allow you to continue your rampage for the entire 12-second duration!
