Iron Man Overview In Marvel Rivals

Iron Man is a universally beloved Hero and is a Duelist in Marvel Rivals, meaning his primary objective is to deal damage and lots of it. Fortunately, he can do just that with ease, as his kit is straightforward and potent enough for him to get in, rack up loads of damage, and then retreat to safety.

If you viewed any of our other Duelist guides, you would know that they all have one glaring downside: their health pool, which is always very low, making them extremely easy to kill. Luckily, Iron Man has tremendous mobility options, making him a bit harder to take down than usual. His low health is not too much of a deal if you know how to play him!

Iron Man Team-Ups

With Doctor Strange joining the roster in the full release of Marvel Rivals, the Gamma Charge Team-Up action has gotten even better than before. While it remained the same since the beta, allowing Bruce Banner to power up Doctor Stange’s Maelstrom of Madness Ability alongside Iron Man’s Armor Overdrive makes this a solid trio to run.

If you’re looking to deal monstrous amounts of damage, then rocking this trio with your friends or randoms will be a surefire way to do just that. However, you still have to be mindful of Iron Man’s low health pool, as that can cause trouble if you just dive in without a proper strategy in place!

Iron Man Abilities

Ability

Description

Repulsor Blast

LMB/R2/RT

Iron Man launches Nano Pulse Cannons from his hands toward his target, dealing decent damage on impact.

Unibeam

RMB/R1/RB

Iron Man channels a highly concentrated beam of energy from his chest, which significantly damages his target but isn’t as accurate as his Repulsor Blast.

Armor Overdrive

E/Triangle/Y

Iron Man’s suit enters overdrive, giving substantial damage buffs to his Repulsor Blast and Unibeam abilities for ten seconds. His Unibeam will have unlimited ammo for the entirety of the buff’s duration.

Micro-Missile Barrage

F/X/A

After using Armor Overdrive or Hyper-Velocity, Iron Man can send a barrage of missiles onto the ground beneath him, dealing mass damage on impact.

Hyper-Velocity

LSHIFT/Circle/B

Allows Iron Man to fly freely through the arena at tremendous speed, making it a terrific way to get in and out of combat encounters.

Invincible Pulse Cannon

Q/L3+R3

Iron Man charges his Pulse Cannons up to the max before unleashing a potent beam of energy at the ground, dealing substantial damage to anything and anyone in the area.

Gamma Overdrive

Team-Up Ability

If Bruce Banner (Hulk) is on the same team as Iron Man and Doctor Strange, he can grant them gamma radiation, which allows Iron Man and Doctor Strange to power their Abilities up even more drastically and deal even more damage than before.

Despite not having a robust or lengthy move list, what Iron Man does have access to makes him a dominant force in battle. His excellent mobility and damage potential make him a phenomenal Duelist, and his ease of use makes him a solid pick for any newcomer to the genre or Marvel Rivals.

However, hitting his Repulsor Blasts can be a tad tricky at first, so we recommend booting into the Practice Range to get used to its fire rate and how much you have to lead each shot before jumping into an online match. Landing your hits is crucial if you want to make Iron Man shine!

Like most Duelists in Marvel Rivals, you won’t really need a dedicated team composition to make Iron Man work. Still, we strongly recommend at least having Bruce Banner (Hulk) on your team, as the Gamma Overdrive Team-Up Ability is extraordinarily potent and makes Iron Man even more of a menace on the battlefield.

His Armor Overdrive is already a strong ability that substantially buffs his Repulsor Blast and Unibeam abilities, but having these further get buffed via the help of the Hulk makes it a must-have if you want to dish out disgusting amounts of damage throughout the course of the match.

And, with the addition of Doctor Strange, having all three of them on the same team is oddly viable, as Bruce Banner can buff both of them simultaneously, allowing them to wreak havoc on everyone and anything in sight. If you have the team to run it with, you should definitely try it out!

For being a Ranged DPS Hero, Iron Man is surprisingly agile and swift when it comes to his movement, and his kit is very straightforward and easy to digest. Using everything he has available as efficiently as possible will have him shine brighter than ever, and even more so if you have the helping hand of the Hulk on your team to further boost his damage potential.

Iron Man Combos In Marvel Rivals

  • Repulsor Blast > Unibeam > Hyper-Velocity > Micro-Missile Barrage > Armor Overdrive > Micro-Missile Barrage > Repulsor Blast > Unibeam
  • Armor Overdrive > Micro-Missile Barrage > Repulsor Blast > Unibeam > Hyper-Velocity > Micro-Missile Barrage > Unibeam > Hyper-Velocity
  • Armor Overdrive > Micro-Missile Barrage > Repulsor Blast > Unibeam > Hyper-Velocity > Micro-Missile Barrage > Invincible Pulse Cannon > Hyper-Velocity

While beginning your combo with Repulsor Blase is typically a good call, using Armor Overdrive before diving in will ensure you’re maximizing your damage output. This will allow you to save Hyper-Velocity for a bit later in the rotation and bounce if things get hairy.

Again, Iron Man has tremendous mobility, so utilizing that to the fullest will go a long way toward making him a thorn in the enemy’s side. Getting in, dealing tons of damage, getting out, and repeating that loop will have you dominate the match as Iron Man and his abilities make that strategy work phenomenally well.

Overall, while his low HP is a problem that you must be wary of, his ability to simply peace out of encounters at remarkably high speeds makes up for that. And if your healer is on point, you can stay in encounters even longer while unleashing your highly annoying offense!

When To Use Invincible Pulse Cannon

Iron Man charging his Invincible Pulse Cannon Ultimate Attack, hurtling a concentrated blast of energy at the ground onto a group of enemies in Marvel Rivals.

Invincible Pulse Cannon is Iron Man’s Ultimate Ability in Marvel Rivals. It allows him to send a concentrated blast of energy into the ground beneath him, covering a wide blast radius and dealing remarkable amounts of damage. It’s highly potent and can help tip the tides of battle in your favor if used properly.

We recommend using this Ultimate after executing Hyper-Velocity to get high above the battlefield, then use Micro-Missle Barrage to pepper the opposition below before pummeling them into dust with the Invincible Pulse Cannon. While it can be tricky to use as you must hit an area where many enemies are grouped, being high in the air will give you a great vantage point.

Furthermore, while Iron Man will be left extremely vulnerable during Invincible Pulse Cannon, using Hyper-Velocity to position yourself high in the air will make it near-impossible for most enemies to locate you and shoot you down in time. Using his mobility and ability to fly to your advantage will let you get the most out of his Ultimate!
