How To Play As Hela In Marvel Rivals

There are many Heroes for you to pick up and play in Marvel Rivals. They cover all gameplay bases, with ranged-focused characters and some who rely on getting in their opponent’s face to deal damage and eliminate them. Hela is one of the most fierce ranged characters in the game, so long as you can master her slightly complex move list.

Here’s how to soar around the battlefield in style and dominate your opponents as Iron Man in Marvel Rivals!

Despite being a bit more challenging to learn than most other Duelists, Hela is an exhilarating Hero to play, as her high-ish skill ceiling makes her all the more rewarding to play and thrive with. Even if that means you will put in more time and effort to achieve those results.

Updated December 19, 2024, by Seth Parmer: Hela was already pretty strong during the beta period of Marvel Rivals, and now she’s slightly better thanks to the bump to her health, allowing her to stay in encounters a bit longer than before. Aside from that, we also wanted to highlight her excellent Team-Up Ability more, which will take her to greater heights when implemented properly!

Hela Overview In Marvel Rivals

Hela is a Duelist in Marvel Rivals. Her primary focus is applying pressure on the opposition by dishing out massive amounts of damage in short and concise bursts. She is a Ranged DPS archetype, meaning she can achieve her goals by maintaining a safe-ish distance between her and the opposition, making it easier for her Strategists to apply healing.

Like all Duelists, Hela lacks lots of HP, making her very squishy. Therefore, she must avoid taking damage at all costs. Luckily, she has pretty great movement options, allowing her to get out of dodge almost instantaneously, which is always lovely for a Duelist!

Ragnarok Rebirth

Team-Ups are a crucial part of Marvel Rivals, and one of the best ones in the game is Ragnarok Rebirth, which allows Hela to resurrect Loki and Thor from the dead if she lands the final blow on an enemy. And, if they’re still alive when she gets an elimination, she can provide them with Bonus Health, which can make or break an encounter.

If you are going to be playing as Hela, ensure you have at least Loki or Thor on your team, as this Team-Up Ability is no joke and can drastically change the tide of battle if you’re utilizing it to its full potential. There are many powerful Team-Ups in Marvel Rivals, but this one remains near the top of that list for a reason!

Queen of Hell

Passive Team-Up Ability

Landing the final hit as Hela allows her to instantly revive Loki or Thor if they’re currently in the respawning phase. She can grant them bonus health if they’re alive, keeping them in the fight longer.

As you likely can tell, Hela has a decent amount of moves to work with, all requiring ranged precision, which is part of what makes her sort of challenging to just pick up and play, especially if you’re a newcomer to Marvel Rivals or to Hero Shooters in general.

While she isn’t the most beginner-friendly character, she isn’t impossible by any stretch. Still, we do strongly suggest testing her out in the Practice Range to get your accuracy up with her Nightsword Thorns, as they are very challenging to land at range.

Per the usual, since Hela is a Ranged DPS Duelist, she doesn’t really require a specific team composition to get her offense going. However, with that said, we cannot recommend having at least Loki or Thor on your team if you’re playing as Hela enough, as her ability to heal and revive them after scoring a kill is massive.

Other than that, Hela will mesh well with just about any team composition out there, so you shouldn’t have to worry too much about who your teammates are so long as you’re doing your job and they’re doing theirs. A dedicated healer such as Luna Snow could be super beneficial for Hela in some situations!

Since Hela is a Ranged DPS and has an excellent exit tool, her low HP shouldn’t be too much of an issue. This allows you to use her kit to its full potential and bounce the moment things start going awry. Her move list and gameplay flow are pretty straightforward, so once you get her accuracy down, you should be good to go to be a menace in the arena!

Hela Combos In Marvel Rivals

  • Soul Drainer > Nightsword Thorn > Piercing Night > Astral Flock
  • Nightsword Thorn > Soul Drainer > Nightsword Thorn > Piercing Night > Astral Flock
  • Soul Drainer > Nightsword Thorn > Piercing Night > Astral Flock > Goddess of Death

Her combo variety may not be all that varied, especially when compared to most other Duelists in the game. Still, the biggest hurdle to overcome when playing Hela is your accuracy, as it can be pretty challenging to land all eight Nightsword Thorns in a combo, especially at long-ish distances.

But starting your combo off with Soul Drainer is the most effective, as it will temporarily stun your targets, allowing you to line up your shots and take them without worrying about leading it or trying to hit a moving target that’s traveling remarkably fast. Again, we cannot recommend enough the importance of the Practice Range to hone your accuracy with Hela.

Outside of that, using Astral Flock to retreat from the scene or position yourself in an advantageous spot for her Goddess of Death Ultimate will be the best way to close out the combo. Then, you will simply repeat the steps again to keep her suffocating pressure and high damage count up!

When To Use Goddess Of Death

Hela executing her Goddess of Death Ultimate Ability in Marvel Rivals, having her levitate high above the arena and toss Nastrond Crows down onto her opposition for massive damage.

Goddess of Death is Hela’s Ultimate Ability in Marvel Rivals. It has her leap high into and levitates in place, allowing her to cast Nastrond Crows from each hand before hurtling them toward the ground, dealing mass damage to anyone and anything in its path. This action lasts for ten seconds and is tremendously powerful.

We strongly recommend using this ability after using Astral Flock to get to an advantageous position, as the moment you cast it, Hela will be highly vulnerable to enemy fire. The good news, however, is she will be very high in the air, making most characters unable to hit her, especially if you positioned yourself strategically beforehand.

This is why earlier we said having someone like Luna Snow may be beneficial. She can adequately heal Hela during this Ultimate Ability, eliminating any risk of getting shot out of the sky before the ten seconds conclude. Overall, this is a very powerful action that should be used to clear groups of enemies out from an objective, and it should be used strategically and smartly!
