I don’t think it’s presumptuous to say that, when it arrives, Grand Theft Auto 6 will be the biggest, most popular videogame of all time. Is there any other game that has more anticipation behind it? Half-Life 3? Probably not. The Elder Scrolls 6? I don’t think so. Rockstar’s upcoming crime epic, which takes us back to Vice City (albeit a reimagined, modern version) is surely destined to break every available record. But when’s it actually coming out? GTA 5 is still pulling big numbers and we haven’t even gotten the second Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer yet. Now, an actor who worked on both Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 drops a small hint about the biggest launch in modern gaming history.
The GTA 6 release date is on the way – we know it’s real, and we’ve had our first glimpses of the rebuilt Vice City, in the fictional state of Leonida. The pioneering force in crime open-world games, Rockstar surely has something special in the works with Grand Theft Auto 6, having further perfected its style and formula with Red Dead Redemption 2. Provisionally, GTA 6 is set for 2025, but Johnny Ray Gill, whose credits include Grand Theft Auto 5, RDR2, and TV shows like True Blood and Cross, also makes mention of a different year.
“I think I was earlier in my career and so they put the little helmet on you and they’re filming you and you’re doing multiple voices, you know, of different characters and stuff like that,” Gill says about their work with Rockstar, during an interview with YouTube channel Check It TV, which was reported by TweakTown. “I will say this, stay on the lookout. I can’t say anything, but there’s another situation happening in that world that may be coming out in 2025, 2026 that I’m really hyped about.”
Does this mean there’s a possibility that GTA 6 could be pushed into 2026? As recently as November, Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two reiterated that the crime game would arrive in the “calendar year of 2025.” If Gill has a role in GTA 6, perhaps they know something about the game that we don’t yet. Or maybe this is all tinfoil hat stuff, like when we tried to work out the launch date based on images of the Moon in Grand Theft Auto 5. We’ll just have to see.
In the meantime, we’ve collated everything there is to know about Rockstar’s next behemoth on the dedicated GTADB. We’ve also been scouring trailers and images, and have compiled a comprehensive look at the GTA 6 map.
