As the Final Fantasy 14 Mobile beta continues, a new trailer showcased how overworld gameplay and combat would compare to the PC and console versions. The latest Final Fantasy 14 Mobile beta video also gave prospective players a preview of how some eight-player Trial and Raid mechanics would be translated to touchscreen devices.

The ongoing beta test of Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is exclusive to mainland China. Once the beta concludes, Square Enix and developer Lightspeed Studios will release Final Fantasy 14 Mobile globally on supported devices. Compared to the current PC and console releases of Final Fantasy 14, the mobile version will take things back to A Realm Reborn, as only the story and Jobs present at the game’s 2013 relaunch will be available. Square Enix stated that content from ensuing expansions, such as Heavensward and Stormblood, may be added to Final Fantasy 14 Mobile in future updates, pending player feedback.

While the content of the Final Fantasy 14 Mobile beta is subject to change between now and its release, players can now see how the game will handle various parts of gameplay. A YouTube video from the Final Fantasy 14 Mobile beta that was originally shared on Weibo showed how shifting from overworld exploration to combat would work. The video corroborated some leaked Final Fantasy 14 Mobile screenshots which showed different facets of the UI, such as inventory and Job abilities. Upon engaging in a Full Active Time Event (FATE) in Upper La Noscea, the camera angle and menu quickly shifted to show additional buttons and gauges, which may indicate that the interface can change depending on the situation. The video also shared how ground and flying mounds will be controlled, with flying mounts able to ascend and descend using a contextual button on the right side.

The second half of the montage gave Final Fantasy 14 fans a glimpse of how the Extreme Trial battle against Titan will look in FF14 Mobile. Adding to a previous Final Fantasy 14 Mobile combat trailer, new footage from the fight against Titan showed that some role actions could be accessed by tapping the role icon on the bottom right, and then moving a thumb in a cardinal direction. Examples of Tank role actions that Final Fantasy 14 Mobile players can use include Arm’s Length, Provoke, and Rampart.

Though questions remain about the game’s monetization model, Square Enix assured players that Final Fantasy 14 Mobile would not have a gacha system. What changes will be made between the beta and the full launch of Final Fantasy 14 Mobile remains to be seen.
