A new leak has teased a potentially imminent announcement of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake, which would be fantastic news to kick-start gamers’ 2025. The alleged The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake has been circling the rumor mill for years, and confirmation of its existence was once discovered during Microsoft’s acquisition of Blizzard, but its projected 2022 release date never came to fruition. Another 2023 leak suggested an Unreal Engine 5 remake was in the works, but again, no official announcement followed.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is the latest entry in Bethesda’s action RPG franchise, and it’s still catering to a healthy player base despite releasing in 2011. Of course, fans of the fantasy franchise have their eyes on the previously announced The Elder Scrolls 6, but the sixth main entry is not expected to hit shelves until 2026 or later. The Elder Scrolls 6 is one of the most anticipated upcoming RPGs, but a supposed Oblivion remake may be enough excitement to spend some of the wait time.

Responses to the Oblivion remake leak on social media were largely positive, but some fans wanted to see a Morrowind remake first. Others showed excitement over the rumored Oblivion remake possibly being released in the same year as Fable, Avowed, and The Outer Worlds 2. Despite being 17 years old, the game is still held in fans’ high regard since The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion paid homage to the series’ roots by harboring a great deal of nostalgia for the franchise’s predecessors.

Oblivion was first released in 2006 and serves as the fourth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series and a successor to 2002’s Morrowind. Players explore the province of Cyrodiil in an attempt to take down the Mythic Dawn cult that threatens to open portals to the titular demonic realm. Since its release, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion has accumulated a long list of fantastic mods to customize players’ gameplay, including UI upgrades alongside additional creatures and quests, and the title remains a fan-favorite for its schedule-driven NPCs, scale, and freedom of choice.
