Summary
- If you blink, there’s a good chance you’ll miss seeing Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Naoe running past you.
- That’s because, according to Ubisoft, Naoe is the “fastest” assassin they’ve created yet.
- Details about Naoe and Yasuke were revealed in a new interview, including the presence of the Naruto Run in the game.
When Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches this February after a brief delay took it out of 2024, it looks like the female protagonist, Naoe, will be the most classic Assassin’s Creed-like character in quite some time.
The reason?
Her ability to run and parkour at high speeds, coupled with the immense number of gadgets at her disposal that seemingly encourage stealth gameplay over open battles. In fact, Ubisoft’s Jonathan Dumont, the creative director of Shadows, has come out to say that Naoe is “the fastest Assassin we ever made.”
That bit of information should be music to any Assassin’s Creed fan’s ears, particularly those who’ve grown tired of the more ARPG-like formula of recent entries.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dumont provided more details about the next game in the AC franchise, including some intriguing bits of info about Naoe.
“Naoe’s the fastest Assassin we ever made,” Dumont said. “She runs super fast, she has a lot of gadgets to keep her stealth so that she doesn’t have to fight often. We wanted to satisfy that for players that come in for that ninja-Assassin game.”
That’s not all, though, according to the article, Naoe will be so fast that she’ll be able to pull off a version of Naruto’s iconic run, complete with the arms bent backwards in the game. “We do have a run on top of buildings that has a little bit of a wink-wink to it,” Dumont added.
Elsewhere, it was revealed that the series’ iconic Hidden Blade was passed down to Naoe from her father. “We’re going to learn a little bit more (about) what that means,” Dumont added.
And if you’re wondering if Yasuke, the game’s other protagonist, will be able to complete a Leap of Faith, well, the answer is sort of. “He doesn’t do the Leap of Faith,” Dumont said. “He just crashes right into the haystack, and he hurts his butt, too. So, it’s pretty funny.”
