The zombie genre has seen some really great releases in the last few years. The Resident Evil remakes have continued to please both series veterans and newcomers alike, Dying Light 2 has received a plethora of updates that have kept the community hooked, and even Dead Island 2 managed to come back from the dead and actually hit store shelves.
But this modern zombie gaming renaissance is far from over. While a new Resident Evil wasn’t revealed at this year’s Game Awards, zombie fans still have a lot to look forward to next year. From big AAA releases to possible Indie gems, the zombie genre already has a handful of exciting releases waiting in the wings for 2025.

Killing Floor 3
Announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live in August 2023, Killing Floor 3 is the next installment in the long-running zombie co-op horde shooter series. Killing Floor has come a long way since its origins of being an Unreal Tournament 2004 mod, and its third entry is set to be the biggest and best yet.
Featuring 6-player co-op, Killing Floor 3 will have players teaming up as a group of Nightfall rebels looking to overthrow the evil megacorp Horzine and its army of brainwashed Zeds. Just like previous entries, players will carve their way through relentless hordes of monsters with a vast arsenal of weapons, gadgets, and unlockable skills. Killing Floor 3 has just been given a March 2025 release date.
Dying Light: The Beast
Probably one of the most anticipated zombie game releases of next year, Dying Light: The Beast will be a shorter standalone adventure that sees players take control of original Dying Light protagonist Kyle Crane once more. Set in the rural area of Castor Woods, Dying Light: The Beast will feature a brand new open-world to explore, complete with an array of new gear and weapons to find and use against the growing horde.
While Dying Light: The Beast can be played solo, it supports 4-player co-op, giving players a bit more breathing room when fighting the game’s new abominations. Dying Light: The Beast currently has a release window of Summer 2025.
Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days
A side-scrolling zombie survival game, Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days has the potential to be one of 2025’s hidden gems. Set in the 1980s, players must make their way through the remains of Walton City, scavenging as many supplies as they can and taking them back to home base. Along the way, players will find new survivors that they need to house and protect, using the game’s crafting system to satisfy both their physical and psychological needs.
A demo for Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days is available now, and the full game is set to launch some time in 2025.
God Save Birmingham
Another Indie zombie game that looks promising, God Save Birmingham is set to hit Steam Early Access in 2025. Set in a 14th century version of the titular UK city, God Save Birmingham sees a mysterious plague turn its inhabitants into flesh-eating zombies. In its early access launch, players will be able to explore about a quarter of the medieval town, with the rest being added before its eventual 1.0 release.
State of Decay 3
Announced all the way back in July 2020, State of Decay 3 finally resurfaced earlier this year, appearing during Xbox’s packed June Showcase. Soon after its announcement, Windows Central’s Jez Corden mentioned on the Xbox Two podcast that he’d heard Undead Labs were aiming for a 2025 release date for State of Decay 3. This rumor hasn’t been confirmed by Undead Labs, but there’s a chance fans could see it next year.
