Zenless Zone Zero Fans Unhappy About PS5 'Censorship'

Summary

  • Zenless Zone Zero players can no longer look up characters’ skirts following Update 1.4.
  • HoYoverse has not explained the controversial change, which many are calling “censorship.”
  • Currently, it’s believed that Update 1.5 will be made available on January 21, 2025.

Some Zenless Zone Zero players are upset that, following the recent Update 1.4, they can no longer look up at their character’s panties. With the eagerly awaited Update 1.4, Zenless Zone Zero received new characters and a new part of the main story, but what seems to be dominating the discourse around the patch is an otherwise small change that has been deemed “censorship” by part of the player base.

Zenless Zone Zero was released by HoYoverse earlier in 2024. Partially due to the success of other titles made by the developer, such as Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero quickly became a huge hit, reaching over 50 million downloads soon after its launch.

The release of Update 1.4 for Zenless Zone Zero was supposed to be a big day for fans, but the community seems greatly unhappy with one change brought by the update: players can no longer peek at their character’s panties. The patch notes of Update 1.4 state “when viewed from specific angles, the agent will appear faded,” which essentially prevents gamers from adjusting the camera to look underneath a character’s skirt. This change did not sit well with portions of the community, and it’s not hard to find upset players who are accusing HoYoverse of censoring the game. Some of the arguments include people stating that they spent money on the gacha to unlock specific characters and that this is an unfair alteration that they didn’t anticipate.

Zenless Zone Zero Fans Accuse New Update of “Censoring” the Game

Unfortunately, HoYoverse has not addressed the controversy, and it’s not currently known why the change was made. While it’s possible that the change was enforced due to the game’s age rating, it’s impossible to know without official comments. HoYoverse has also been generally receptive to feedback, so it’s possible that this adjustment could be reverted.

Apart from this controversial change, the new update brings several improvements to Zenless Zone Zero. For instance, the PS5 and PS5 Pro versions of Zenless Zone Zero will now have ray-tracing support, and two S-Rank agents have been added to the game: Hoshimi Miyabi, and Asaba Harumasa.

Hopefully, upcoming updates will be more well-received by the community. Earlier this week, HoYoverse revealed a new S-Rank agent for Version 1.5 of Zenless Zone Zero, Astro Yao. The new character will be part of the “Stars of Lyra” faction and has already been confirmed to be an Ether Support character. Right now, it’s believed that Update 1.5 will be available on January 21, 2025.
