What to Expect From Horror Games in 2025

Horror games had a solid outing in 2024, with titles ranging from AAA games like Senua’s Sage: Hellblade 2 and the Until Dawn Remake to indie horror games like Crow Country and Fear the Spotlight. Out of all the horror games released in 2024, none was likely as exciting as Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 Remake, which revived the beloved franchise in a huge way, going on to earn several nominations at The Game Awards 2024. While the horror gaming line-up for 2025 isn’t as clear yet as some would hope, there still seems to be a lot of solid games for fans to sink their teeth into in the new year.

The horror game genre is in somewhat of a state of limbo at the moment, with a steady stream of massive titles releasing in recent years and a variety of highly anticipated titles still without release dates. This in-between period can still be an exciting time for horror game fans, especially with several brand-new projects on the horizon. While 2025 might be a stronger year in terms of horror game news than actual releases, there should still be plenty available to send shivers down players’ spines.

Resident Evil 9 May Get a Reveal in 2025

Resident Evil 9 Rumors Will Likely Come to a Head

The Resident Evil franchise is a pillar of the horror game genre as one of its foundational series, and all eyes are on Capcom to announce what fans can expect from the series next. Following 2021’s Resident Evil Village and 2023’s Resident Evil 4 Remake, 2025 seems to align with the release schedule for a new entry in the series. However, Capcom has remained tight-lipped about Resident Evil 9‘s development beyond confirmation that it is in production with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard director Koshi Nakanishi at the helm.

A lack of concrete details about Resident Evil 9 hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from firing on all cylinders over the past year. Resident Evil 9 rumors and leaks include details like the return of Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine as protagonists, to an open-world map set on an island in the South Pacific. Even if Resident Evil 9 isn’t released in 2025, the increasing number of leaks and rumors surrounding the title suggest fans could at least be in for an official reveal in the coming year.
