One of my favorite things to do during my holiday break is get stuck into a good videogame. Between all the food, family visits, and hanging out with friends, I often need an evening or two to myself. Online games are great for this, because they normally have some sort of winter event that really brings me into the season. This year, Deadlock is no different. Valve has rolled out a festive patch filled with a complete winter revamp, secretive skins, and a whole lot more to keep you busy this holiday season.
Even though the full Deadlock release date is nowhere in sight, Valve is still committing to updating its shiny new MOBA. Deadlock doesn’t need to be coated in snow for the holidays, and yet Valve has done just that, so if you’ve been taking a break and fancy jumping back in, now’s the time.
“Season’s Greetings! Today’s winter-themed visual update will be our last patch for the year, but we’ll continue to ship bug fixes and any urgent balance adjustments as needed throughout the break,” ‘Yoshi’ writes on the Discord. “Thanks to everyone for all the useful feedback that you’ve given us this year, we’re looking forward to sharing more of what’s to come for Deadlock in 2025. For now, we hope that everyone has a magical season full of joy, souls, and surprises…”
When you boot up Deadlock you’ll notice a colder menu than usual, with plenty of cosmetic map changes to trees, ziplines, and even the New York Oracle. It also looks like every single hero has a new festive outfit for you to unlock, giving everyone some much-needed positive cheer. All of these outfits appear to be unlocked via secretive challenges, but the Deadlock community is already hard at work discovering each of them.
With all of these festive changes, it looks like Valve is now mostly going on break into 2025. That said, Yoshi does make it clear that urgent bug fixes or balance changes will be implemented as needed – so you don’t need to worry.
It’s not just wholesome winter theming that’ll keep you coming back over the holidays, either. The new Deadlock character Raven is now available in Hero Labs, so you can take the Soviet spy for a spin while on break. Just keep in mind that Hero Labs characters are subject to many, many changes – so Raven might not look remotely similar when they launch in full.
We’ve also got breakdowns for all the Deadlock crosshairs to help your aim, and our new sister site Deadlock Rank is perfect for diving into the game’s gritty details.
