Star Trek remains one of the most popular franchises in the entertainment world, and a new show is being developed for Paramount Plus. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy doesn’t have a premiere date at this stage, but the show is set to enhance the popular franchise. It is set in the far future of that particular universe, where Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets are having to recover from an event shown in Star Trek: Discovery.
An impressive cast has already been put together, with Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Sandro Rosta, Karim Diane, and Zoe Steiner all set to appear. Holly Hunter will be the captain of the academy in this show, while Paul Giamatti is going to be the villain. However, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is also set for an injection of high action as a popular WWE Superstar has now joined the cast in the form of Becky Lynch.

Lynch took to X to announce the news via a video. She said, “You know, when you’ve already been champion of the world, there’s only one place to go next, and that’s to the stars. I’m so excited to share with all of you that I’m joining Star Trek: Starfleet Academy as part of the bridge crew. This has been the most amazing experience, acting alongside just a spectacular cast and crew, and I cannot wait for all of you to check it out when it comes out on Paramount Plus.”
Lynch has been on a hiatus from the world of WWE, having been gone from the company for over 200 days now. However, the former Women’s World Champion is expected to return to the ring at some stage in the future as she was recently part of the promotion for WWE’s upcoming move to Netflix, which takes place next year. While she’s always entertained inside the ring, Lynch has had a successful career due to the characters she’s created and the way in which she’s connected with the fans, a lot of which is down to her acting ability in conveying specific stories.
Outside of being one of the most prominent figures in the world of professional wrestling, Lynch has taken on some acting roles throughout her career as she begins to make moves into that world. Lynch appeared as herself in an episode of Billions and in the NBC sitcom Young Rock as Cyndi Lauper. She has also been involved in two movies, both produced by WWE Studios, in The Marine 6: Close Quarters, and the animated film, Rumble.
Adding Lynch to Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is certainly an exciting announcement for many people, and it is a positive sign for the show generally to be adding someone with such star power. While it remains to be seen whether or not Lynch will reach the heights of Dwayne Johnson, John Cena, and Dave Bautista, if her WWE career is anything to go by, Lynch tends to succeed in whatever she sets her eyes on. It is also a boost for the show as it will guarantee interest from her legion of fans within the world of wrestling.
