CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 4 was finally revealed at The Game Awards recently, bringing with it the end of an almost 10-year wait for fans who couldn’t wait to see what was next in the franchise. This has now left some questions about whether The Witcher 4 is connected to the Netflix series, and thankfully, the game’s director and executive producer disclosed whether there’s a link between the two.
The incredibly appealing cinematic trailer for The Witcher 4 cemented the long-standing rumor that the next game would place an older looking Ciri in the forefront of the action, as the protagonist can be seen fighting off a horrific cave monster called a Bauk, something similar to what Netflix’s Ciri fought off when she faced an aeschna with Geralt, a long rough-skinned water creature that resembles a stump overgrown with algae. Now with several seasons of the Netflix show under its belt, fans have begun wondering if CD Projekt Red has thrown in some events from the series into the game during its development.

Is The Witcher 4 Influenced By The Netflix TV Series?
In a YouTube interview with Games.ch, The Witcher 4 developers from CD Projekt Red, game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Małgorzata Mitrega, discussed if there were any connections between the Netflix show and The Witcher 4. Kalemba explained that “there’s always some synergy between transmedia” when it comes to franchises as big as The Witcher but that the team wasn’t going to “rely on it” when it came to the development of the game. Mitrega confirmed that The Witcher 4‘s storytelling and their goal for the game are going to be “our origin thing always.” So, it seems as though The Witcher 4 won’t have any obvious connections to Netflix’s The Witcher.
Interestingly, Mitrega did add that CD Projekt Red does place a lot of focus on The Witcher‘s lore and also from the books by Andrzej Sapkowski, but that Ciri’s journey in their upcoming game, which serves as a sequel, “is mostly what we want to tell the world.” For fans who can’t get enough Gwent in their lives, it seems as though the popular card game may return to The Witcher 4. Recently, in a separate interview, Mitrega revealed that she and her team love Gwent, and that she doesn’t think “anyone will be disappointed” in the next game who are card playing enthusiasts.
As for Netflix’s The Witcher, season four has revealed a host of new cast faces that are joining the show, which includes Gareth David-Lloyd, who voiced Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and Dragon Age: Inquisition, as well as Game of Thrones‘ Gary Oliver, plus many more. Netflix has yet to confirm a release date or a solid premiere window for season four, but it looks as though it might be released sometime before the end of summer 2025.
