Kurama is currently with Himawari in Boruto. He needs a power up to keep up with the current enemies.
At the beginning of Naruto, the only Tailed Beast fans thought existed was Kurama. However, with time, it became clear that there were more than just one, and eventually, in the second part of Naruto, fans got to see all of them, one by one. While the Tailed Beasts were seen as weapons at the beginning of the series, things changed greatly towards the end and it was all down to Naruto. The Tailed Beasts started roaming the world freely at the end of Naruto, with the exception of Kurama, who stayed with Naruto and Gyuki with Killer Bee. The fate of the others remains unknown.
Kurama’s Death In Boruto Changed The Tailed Beast Balance
- Kurama died in the battle against Isshiki
- Naruto Uzumaki was left without a beast
Naturally, when it comes to the fate of the Tailed Beasts in the Boruto series, fans know about a few of them already. For instance, Kurama has been a major plot point in the Boruto series, and fans saw him die in Naruto’s battle against Isshiki. This battle was impossibly hard for Naruto to win as he was. Because of that, fans knew that he had to evolve to the next level if he had to stand any chance of defeating the power that was Isshiki. To solve this issue, Kurama suggested using Baryon Mode, which would see both Naruto and his own chakra being used as kernels to create a new form of energy. At the end of things, Kurama ended up dying due to his chakra running out, and fans were devastated to see Naruto Uzumaki being stripped of his Tailed Beast.
Farewell, Naruto! Don’t join me anytime soon. – Kurama
Having been with Kurama since day one, it was shocking for the fans to even imagine that Naruto would now have to live without this mighty beast at his side.
Aside from Kurama, fans also know about Gyuki, the eight-tailed Beast. Gyuki played a significant role in the Naruto series, and was the first Tailed Beast to be shown in proper synergy with the Jinchuriki. In fact, it was Gyuki and Killer B who taught Naruto how to control his Tailed Beast properly. At the end of the Fourth Great Ninja War, Gyuki could have walked free if he wanted to. However, his bond with Killer Bee was so strong that he decided to stay and, ever since then, these two have continued being a dynamic duo. Unfortunately, in the Boruto series, both Gyuki and Killer Bee are largely unseen. Their whereabouts are unknown, and whether they’ll play any part in the active troubles against the Shinju remains to be seen as well. At the very least, fans know that Gyuki is still with Killer Bee and that if the need ever arises, he will jump ino action immediately.
Where Are The Other Tailed Beasts?
The Other Tailed Beasts Are Roaming The World Freely
With Kurama and Gyuki’s case out of the way, fans will naturally start wondering as to where the other Tailed Beasts are. As fans know, at the end of the Fourth Great Ninja War, Naruto succeeded in freeing all the Tailed Beasts. The Tailed Beasts went through quite a lot in the Naruto series. Having been forcibly sealed inside people, and being made into weapons was bad enough, but, as things continued, they were collected one by one inside the Gedo Statue, and then chained using the power of the Rinnegan. If that wasn’t enough, fans then got to see them being utilized for the recreation of the Ten Tails, and at one point, even being utilized by Kaguya for her own good.
You guys are now free to roam around as you wish. – Hagoromo Otsutsuki
Just when they thought the danger of Kaguya was over and they were free, Sasuke decided to seal them with Chibaku Tensei. All this is to say that the Tailed Beasts suffered quite a lot, and it was only after all these hardships that they were freed by none other than Naruto Uzumaki. Once the Tailed Beasts were freed, they could go anywhere they wished. Aside from Kurama and Gyuki, the other Tailed Beasts were free and decided to roam the world as they wished. They were still connected to Naruto, which meant that if the need ever arose, they could easily connect inside his psyche and deal with the situation accordingly. This was quite a cool concept for the author to utilize in the Boruto series, but unfortunately, it was non-existent.

As things stand, fans have not received even a single update on where the Tailed Beasts are following the events of the Fourth Great Ninja War. The Tailed Beasts have continued to roam the world, and it seems that they are not even connected to Naruto. At one point, they were deeply concerned with the fate of the world and stopping the creation of a chakra fruit; now, for some reason, they are not bothered by it at all. They haven’t even contacted Naruto even once, nor has the 7th deemed it necessary to bring them into the fold either. Undoubtedly, this is bad writing on the part of the author, but, at the same time, this can be remedied later down the line in Two Blue Vortex, provided the author does take them seriously.
Will The Remaining Tailed Beasts Play A Role In Boruto?
The Remaining Tailed Beasts Could Aid Naruto
Logically speaking, the remaining Tailed Beasts should play a massive role in the Boruto series. In fact, their importance is greater than ever before after Kurama’s death. Fans know that Kurama has now respawned inside Himawari Uzumaki. But, this means that Naruto and Kurama cannot reunite anymore. Naruto’s need for power is still dire. He cannot continue relying on Sage Mode, because the last time he did, he was made a fool of in battle. Naruto cannot protect himself the way he is, which means that he cannot protect the village either, making him unfit for the position of Hokage.
For that reason alone, Naruto needs to seek immense strength and this strength can come from the remaining Tailed Beasts. These beasts are running around the world, and it is now their job to collaborate with Naruto and protect the world. It must be remembered that the Tailed Beasts are on friendly terms with Naruto, and at the same time, they recognize that he needs help more than ever before in order to protect the planet. If Naruto seeks them out, they would gladly help him and share their chakra with him. In fact, they might even join him in combat, and that would certainly make for an incredible plot point to explore in the Boruto series.
But, the main problem is that the author seems unwilling to explore the idea of Tailed Beasts. Fans can only hope that Two Blue Vortex changes that and introduces fans to them in the Boruto series again, especially as a major power source for Naruto after having lost Kurama.
Boruto is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of Boruto, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 17, is set to be December 19, 2024.
