Recently at The Game Awards 2024, another new trailer was revealed for Dying Light: The Beast showing off more gameplay ahead of the game’s upcoming release in 2025. Ever since it was first revealed, Dying Light: The Beast has had major Following vibes, reminiscent of the original Dying Light’s fan-favorite The Following DLC, although the most recent reveal for Dying Light: The Beast has taken things up a notch, proudly showing its influences.
Even after Dying Light 2, the original Dying Light’s The Following DLC is widely considered the peak of the franchise. This DLC notably added a new open-world area with tons of quests and secrets for players to explore, new endgame progression systems, guns, and vehicles. While Dying Light 2 ultimately tread its own path and left some of these features behind, Dying Light: The Beast will see a return to the franchise’s roots by bringing back some of the features that made Dying Light’s The Following DLC so special.

Dying Light: The Beast Has Major ‘The Following’ Vibes
Dying Light: The Beast Featuring Guns and Vehicles on Day One Is a Sweet Treat
The absence of guns and vehicles in Dying Light 2 suited the game’s story and setting, though it was still a bittersweet moment for fans of the franchise after being treated to these features in the original Dying Light’s The Following DLC. Consequently, the latest trailer for the upcoming Dying Light: The Beast showing off gameplay with guns and vehicles immediately gives major The Following vibes.
While guns were eventually added to

in a post-launch update, this on its own arguably wasn’t enough for the sequel to reach the heights of the original game’s Following DLC.
The Return of Kyle Crane in Dying Light: The Beast Is a Love Letter to the Original Game
Not only will guns and vehicles help to bring back the feel of Dying Light’s The Following DLC, but the return of Kyle Crane in Dying Light: The Beast means that players will once again be in the shoes of a familiar character. After Kyle Crane’s only appearances in Dying Light 2 were in subtle easter eggs and passing mentions, Crane’s return as the playable character in Dying Light: The Beast could finally answer some of the lingering questions surrounding this character and the ending of the original game, while still adding a new, exciting chapter to his story.
Dying Light’s Nights Are Scarier Outside of the City
Another element of the latest trailer that has The Following vibes is the variety of environments shown off. While the Dying Light franchise’s signature parkour combat isn’t always useful outside the city, taking notes from The Following DLC and returning to more open environments generally makes for a better playground to utilize the new vehicles. More importantly though, open environments where sanctuaries and hiding places are in limited supply arguably allow Dying Light’s day and night cycle to shine brighter than the inner-city ever does, making nighttime exploration a bigger and scarier risk, like it was in The Following DLC’s open countryside.
After Dying Light 2 tread its own path with new characters and a story set long after the original game on the Dying Light franchise timeline, both Kyle Crane’s journey and the unique features of the original Dying Light’s The Following DLC were widely thought to be left in the past – at least, this was the case before Dying Light: The Beast was revealed. Between the returning player character, firearms, vehicles, and the open outdoor environments shown off already, the latest trailers for Dying Light: The Beast have doubled down on The Following vibes, signaling a return of some of the fan-favorite features from the franchise’s past combined with a long-awaited follow-up to Kyle Crane’s journey.
