Secret Level Is Getting Another Season

Summary

  • Prime Video’s Secret Level is a hit with the largest debut for an animated series on the platform.
  • A second season of the show featuring new video games is in production.

The latest video game adaptation to hit screens this year has already made an impact. Prime Video’s Secret Level is an anthology series telling the untold tales from some of the most popular video games and it will continue to do so in a second season.

Secret Level comes from the same team behind Netflix’s Love, Death + Robots, with the series’ animations done by Blur Studio. Each episode (all of which are under half an hour in length) is set within the world of a different video game with prominent IPs like Armored Core, Warhammer 40K, PAC-MAN, and PlayStation receiving episodes in the series. Secret Level also features a cast of top voice talent such as Keanu Reeves, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Laura Bailey. The series was released in two batches, with one-half of the season streaming on December 10 and the rest arriving a week later.

Secret Level Season 2 Confirmed

Secret Level’s second half was only just released, but Amazon is already confident enough to put a second season of the new TV series into production. Amazon made the announcement on Secret Level’sofficial social accounts, confirming more episodes of the show, featuring new video games, are on the way. The streamer also revealed that Secret Level had the largest debut for an animated series on the platform, which is significant considering Prime Video is also home to Invincible and The Legend of Vox Machina. This marks another win for the streamer in the video game adaptation space, with Prime Video’s Fallout recently scoring Best Adaptation at the Game Awards.

What Games Could Secret Level Season 2 Adapt?

No further details about the release window or plot of the upcoming second season were revealed. The Secret Level creatives, Tim Miller and Dave Wilson, have been vocal in the past about the many video game projects they would love to tackle in future episodes, telling Screen Rant that a Pong episode was a possibility, as well as potentially Fortnite. Fans of the show have also chimed in online, with many calling for their favorite games to get a dedicated episode, such as Gears of War, BioShock, and Dead Space.

Secret Level’s first season consisted of 15 episodes all focused on a different IP. That leaves plenty of games untouched for potential episodes in Season 2. However, the series may need to avoid certain stories that are already in production, with Prime Video already working on its own dedicated God of War and Mass Effect series. This appetite for gaming adaptations is not slowing down, with dozens of projects already in development at different Hollywood studios. Perhaps there will also be room for the series to tie into the marketing of new games as it did with Season 1’s dark PAC-MAN episode, which ended up connecting to a real game that was announced at the Game Awards.

Secret Level Season 1 is now streaming on Prime Video.
