Nicolas Cage Set To Return As Ghost Rider In Future MCU Film

Summary

  • Marvel is embracing the multiverse, leading to iconic cameos like Nicolas Cage reprising Ghost Rider.
  • Cage will reprise Johnny Blaze in a future MCU project, likely in Avengers: Doomsday or another upcoming film.
  • Fans are excited about seeing Ghost Rider back on the big screen, especially with the possibilities of modern visual effects.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe opening up the multiverse has led to many cameo moments across different Marvel films in recent years, which has created some iconic and memorable moments. Several movies have benefited from this, such as Spider-Man: No Way Home and Deadpool & Wolverine, with these films being injected with extra appearances beyond just the lead characters that audiences expected.

Marvel has also taken the opportunity to bring in actors who played Marvel characters from before the MCU was created. The likes of Jennifer Garner as Elektra and Wesley Snipes as Blade prove that nothing is off the table right now for the MCU, which creates an exciting situation for comic book fans. Audiences have enjoyed many of these pre-MCU movies and characters; therefore, seeing them mix it up with the current characters has been a great moment of fan service, and it appears that Marvel isn’t done just yet.

Marvel’s going all in on variants and time travel with its Multiverse Saga, but is losing some pathos in the process

According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Nicolas Cage is set to sit on the motorcycle once again to take on the character of Ghost Rider. He said, “I can confirm that Nic Cage will reprise his role as Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider in an upcoming project. I don’t know which one just yet, but there aren’t many options left.” Marvel’s multiverse saga is expected to end with Avengers: Secret Wars, which will be released in 2027. That means there are only a few films left where a potential Ghost Rider cameo could take place.

The most logical option for Marvel would be for Ghost Rider to appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Various characters from other timelines are expected to pop up in that movie, which is being used as the big story that brings everything together that has been building in recent years. Ryan Reyolds confirmed that they tried to get Cage back as Ghost Rider to appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, but that was a pitch that didn’t end up leading to anything.

However, it appears that Marvel and Cage have now come together on an idea that will see the Spirit of Vengeance be brought into the world of the MCU. Cage last took on the role of Ghost Rider in 2011 for the sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. However, his initial experience as the iconic character came in 2007 when the original Ghost Rider was released, but he is now expected to be back in that environment in the near future.

However, Ghost Rider ends up being used, seeing the character back on the big screen and finally in the MCU will be a popular decision among audiences. The character is beloved within the comic book world due to how unique it is, and considering how visual effects have developed since his last movie, the possibilities for how the character will look are high. Cage is also a popular actor who is enjoying a career resurgence in recent years; therefore, capitalizing on that buzz and bringing him in for a role that fans still remember him playing is an example of perfect timing coming together.
