Hairstyles in Final Fantasy 14 tend to be some of the most sought-after customization options, and one especially popular one is the A Half Times Two hairstyle. As appealing as this lengthy and decorative look is, obtaining it is a chaotic challenge in itself.

Character hairstyles in Final Fantasy 14 can obtained in many different ways, whether they’re part of rewards provided at the Gold Saucer, the Island Sanctuary, Ishgard’s Firmament, or discovered while doing various types of battle content such as Variant Dungeons, Field Operations, Alliance Raids, and more. However, the ‘A Half Times Two’ hairstyle in particular is locked behind a newer type of battle content that can prove quite challenging for some Warriors of Light.

To get the ‘A Half Times Two’ hairstyle released with Dawntrail’s Patch 7.15, you need to participate in and clear the Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) Alliance Raid, not once but at least a few times. The first duty of its kind in Final Fantasy 14, Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) is a unique and difficult battle that pits 24 players against the classic and beloved Final Fantasy boss herself, the Cloud of Darkness. To be able to queue and participate in this duty, you must first fulfill the following prerequisites:

  • Level 100 combat class with Item Level 710 or above (same requirement as Minstrel’s Ballad: Sphene’s Burden)
  • Complete the “Dawntrail” Main Scenario Quest
  • Speak to the Wandering Minstrel in Tuliyollal at (X:11.1, Y:14.7) to unlock the duty in your Raid Finder

As previously mentioned, Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) can be queued for via your Raid Finder menu (not Duty Finder), where you should see a green monster icon. Select this and the duty will appear in the drop menu below it. You can automatically queue for it this way, or you can join a preformed group via the game’s Party Finder menu, just like with regular Alliance Raids such as the FF11-inspired Jeuno series.

Upon completing Cloud of Darkness Chaotic, you can receive either Clouddark Demimateria I or Clouddark Demimateria II totems, which can be redeemed with the vendor Uah’shepya in Solution Nine at the Nexus Arcade (X:8.7, Y:13.5) for a variety of enticing rewards, include the ‘A Half Times Two’ hairstyle, which will cost you 49 x Clouddark Demimateria II totems.

It may seem like an uphill battle to grind out that many totems from such challenging battle content, but there are a couple of different ways to improve drop rates for these items upon victory. When at least one new player is included in a queued instance of Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic), the rewards given after a clear are increased in proportion to the number of those new players. Not only that, limited-time bonuses can occur during designated times throughout the day that increase the drop rate of items across the board.

Alternatively, if you don’t see yourself participating in this type of battle content and have plenty of gil to throw around, the ‘A Half Times Two’ hairstyle can also be purchased off the Market Board. Just be aware that as with other purchasable hairstyles in the game, prices for this high-demand item will fluctuate across different servers and data centers, so keep an eye on prices and spend your gil wisely. If the supply outpaces the demand, you may find yourself able to get the new look for a comparative bargain.

Also, if your character is a Viera or Hrothgar, there’s no need to worry as this hairstyle is actually usable with both those races, male and female. However, if you want to give your character an entirely new look to suit this new hairdo, the game has been continuously offering free Fantasia options to players thanks to its ongoing graphic updates.
